Thomas to the 49ers

Former All-ACC offensive lineman Brandon Thomas was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third-round with the No. 100 overall pick.

Thomas, a two-time all-league selection, tore his ACL during a workout this spring.

Like Marcus Lattimore, Thomas will not play in his rookie year.

Primarily a left tackle at Clemson, Thomas is likely to play guard for the 49ers. Former first-round draft Mike Iupati, their starting right guard, is in the final season of his rookie contract. Iupati will hit the free-agent market after this season and is expected to command a salary that's higher than the 49ers price range.

By this time next year, Thomas could be in a candidate to start at left guard for the 49ers, a position he played at Clemson. Top Stories
