Family ties to Clemson

Last season, Buford High School had quite the stable of running backs, and that played a big part in the Wolves' run to a second consecutive Georgia AAA state championship.

RB Xavier Gantt Profile

A sophomore in 2013, Xavier Gantt worked towards the back of that crowded Buford backfield, which included Missouri signee Thomas Wilson, and a pair of 2015 three-star prospects in Joshua Thomas and Evyn Cooper, both of whom have offers from programs in the ACC, SEC, Big 10 and Big 12.

Gantt, who has offers from Georgia Tech, Miami, Ohio State, Mississippi State and Wake Forest, rushed around 45 times for nearly 500 yards and nine touchdowns last season. On Tuesday, he made his way back to Clemson for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

A 5-10, 165-pound prospect, Gantt is very familiar with the area. His father grew up in Central, went to Daniel and remains a big fan of Clemson football, so camp stops and game day visits have been common over the years.

Gantt's first visit as a recruit was in April for the spring game. Tuesday morning's camp stop was unofficial No. 2 to Clemson.

"Now that I'm in high school, they're looking at me now," Gantt told CUTigers on Tuesday night. "What they say they would do is they would bring in their top [class of] ‘16 kids [and] try to narrow it down to who they wanted to offer.

"It was a great camp. Fundamentally, the coaches were out there, unlike when I went to the LSU camp. The coaches weren't really out there."

Tony Elliott's energy rubbed off.

"He was coaching us, telling us to get better, he knows that we can do stuff better, faster, main stuff like that. He knows what he's talking about," Gantt said. "He's one of those coaches that actually cares and wants you to do it exactly right."

Dabo Swinney has also made a favorable impression.

"He's a great person. He's one of those coaches that knows football is great. He cares about you more as a person than just football," Gantt said. "He knows you can do stuff outside of football."

Georgia Tech has also hosted Gantt for a visit. Next month, he plans to see Tennessee, UNC and Ohio State.

Among his five offers, Ohio State and Georgia Tech are listed as the top two. Top Stories
