Taylor down to eight

Darvin Taylor II has narrowed his list to eight schools. The 2015 four-star Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale defensive tackle gave Scout.com the latest.

After receiving around 30 scholarship offers, Darvin Taylor II is down to eight schools.

Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, NC State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are the schools Taylor is still considering.

"It was kind of hard, but it hard to be done," said the 6-foot-4, 295-pound Taylor. "I feel like I could get a great education at any of the schools and I feel like I could have a chance to play on championship teams at each, too. I've really enjoyed the recruiting process, but it will be over in the next few months."

He gave a quick thought on each school.

Alabama: "They haven't offered, but that's a school I've always wanted to visit," Taylor said. "I've talked to the coaches and when I go down there, hopefully they'll offer. I like everything about them. You know you're going to win there and play in BCS bowl games and for national championships. Coach (Nick) Saban is also doing great things and it's a good school academically."

Clemson: "It's a winning program – they won the Orange Bowl this year. I also have a friend (Clelin Ferrell) that recently committed to Clemson. That's not that big of a factor, but if I did go there, I would already have a connection from back home. I also like the coaching staff and education."

Florida State: "(Defensive tackles) coach (Odell) Hagans has produced some good D-lineman and put a lot of guys in the pros and he's a great coach. He's like a father figure and he's always honest with me. I also have family in Florida. They're a great program and they just won the national championship, too."

Maryland: "It's pretty good school. Last year, the coach who was recruiting me got fired. But (defensive line) coach (Chad) Wilt is going to do some big things and he's my recruiting coach. It's also close to home and I have family in Maryland."

N.C. State: "(Defensive line) coach (Ryan) Nielsen – I've liked him from day one and he's like a father figure, too. I remember going up to a camp, I started off rough, but he helped me stay positive. He's also a great coach with a lot of enthusiasm."

Notre Dame: "That's a school that everybody in the country knows about. You can also get an outstanding education there. It's also a school with a great tradition and a place where I could have a chance to help win some games."

Tennessee: "It's a great school and their program is on the rise right now. I know I'm going to try to get out there for a visit. I really want to see the facilities and the communication school and everything there."

Virginia Tech: "The past four years, we've had four or five guys from my school go up there on full scholarships. Also, (running backs) coach (Shane) Beamer – he's a great coach – and it's close to home. It's also a great school."

Before the summer is over, Taylor said he will likely take trips to Maryland, NC State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Alabama.

He will make his decision on August 28.
