Get to know the Tigers: D.J. Howard

Football season is rapidly approaching, so it's time to re-familiarize yourself with some of the guys you'll be cheering on in this fall. Up next in our Get to know the Tigers series is D.J. Howard.

Name: D.J. Howard

Position: Running Back

Number: 22

Height: 6-0

Weight: 195

Hometown: Lincoln, Alabama

High School: Lincoln High School

2013 Stats: As a reserve last season, Howard rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on 57 carries. He also caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

2014 Prediction: Howard exited spring practice as the top running back on the depth chart. The lone senior in the running back group, Howard will have a chance to keep his name up there as long as he's productive and remains healthy. The latter has been the biggest issue for him over the last few years of his career. He'll have to fend off a full stable of running backs that includes C.J. Davidson, Zac Brooks, Wayne Gallman and Tyshon Dye. Chances are Clemson will take a by-committee-type of approach this season, but don't expect Howard to get lost in the numbers.

Recruiting Background: Before Howard signed with Clemson in the February of 2010, he was committed to play his college ball at Auburn. Howard opted out of his commitment to those Tigers when he learned that they wanted him to play safety. Howard wanted a chance to play running back at the college level. Clemson offered him that opportunity. He also considered Kentucky, before announcing for Clemson on Signing Day.

Dabo Says: "D.J. is leading the way. I'm proud of him. He's had, by far, his best spring. He's been consistent and steady." Top Stories
