South Carolina DL Looking at the Tigers

You've heard the name and you know the Tigers are in the hunt. We've got the latest on one of the top defensive line prospects in the country. Who's after him? Who's his top 5? How is he peforming this season? Whoever wins the services of this fine athlete will have one less hole to fill next season.

Clemson and South Carolina have both been battling it out to win the services of one of the top defensive tackles in the southeast. You've heard the name, its none other than Mickey Rice.

"I like the in-state schools," said Rice. "I'll be looking at them first."

The 6-2, 280-pound Rice runs the 40-yard dash in 5.0 seconds, bench presses 300 pounds and squats 400. As a junior, he totaled 88 tackles, including 24 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries. Many experts have him tagged as the next Reggie White or Warren Sapp. Those are two names you don't hear high school players compared to often.

Rice's current favorites are Clemson, South Carolina, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Michigan State.

As a three year starter at one of the most successful programs in the state (Union has won the last two AAA state championships), Rice is looking at being a full qualifier with a GPA well over 3.0. SCPrepFootball has Rice ranked as the top DL prospect in the state and the number five prospect overall.

When you watch film on this kid, you realize that not only is he extremely quick off the ball, but he also has power and strength that is unparalleled. He literally dominates the line of scrimage.

The Tigers have a whole lot in their favor with Mickey Rice. For one, his hometown is reasonably close to Clemson, AND perhaps even more important is that two of his good friends, Kyle Browning and Roscoe Crosby, both signed with the Tigers last season. Certainly at this point, Rice favors Clemson and South Carolina over all of the out of state schools, and since playing time has been listed as the number one priority in Rice's decision, you can count on the Tigers having a GREAT chance of landing him. This kid could come in and contribute immediately, make no mistake about it.

We will continue to keep you updated on Mickey Rice throughout the season.
