Junior Guard Austin Ajukwa Will Transfer from Clemson

It was announced Tuesday that junior Clemson guard Austin Ajukwa will transfer to another school.

Clemson junior guard Austin Ajukwa will transfer, according to multiple sources since Monday night. Head coach Brad Brownell confirmed the move on Tuesday.

Ajukwa (6'6", 205 lbs.), a versatile guard, averaged 2.7 points and 1.4 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per 55 games. The decision comes just two days before the Tigers' exhibition versus Lenoir-Rhyne on November 5th.

"I understand his desire to play a bigger role, but I’m obviously disappointed with the timing of this decision,” Brownell said. “We appreciate Austin’s contributions to our program the past two years and wish him well in the future. We are ready to turn our focus toward the season, beginning with Thursday’s exhibition in Greenville."

Ajukwa's move creates an opportunity for sophomore shooting guard Gabe DeVoe to step up in the rotation. At ACC Media Day, Brownell said that likely starter Jordan Roper, DeVoe and Ajukwa would all compete for playing time, but each would see significant court time.

It's unknown at this time whether Clemson will acquire a graduate transfer at the last minute. The Tigers do have a fair amount of depth at the guard position this season. Ajukwa is the 7th player to transfer out of the Clemson program during Brownell's tenure. Top Stories
