Recruiting Radar

In his regular feature, Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel provides inside information and news about Clemson's commits and prospects. Have a look at the lengthy list of recruits who will be in Death Valley on Saturday to watch #1 Clemson take on #16 FSU!

"Recruiting Radar” is a new weekly feature that will encompass all the nuggets and intel plus news and info on visits—both official and unofficial. As the season winds down in December, our recruiting coverage will be ramping up quite a bit to cover the “second recruiting season:” December - February.  The Shrine Bowl, North-South Game, all the high school All-Star Games like Army All-American and Under Armour All-American will all be covered. Plan on seeing heavy coverage on Clemson targets on a weekly basis!

We are going to be classifying kids with the following monikers so it’s easier to follow who is “on the radar”.

*Under the Radar: Prospects that are not being heavily recruited due to being an unknown, lack of film or new to football. These are the hidden gems we like to discover when scouting teams in the fall.

*Blips on the Radar: Prospects that are firmly in the sights of schools and are receiving interest from FBS schools (i.e., prospects worth “tracking” with regard to Clemson).

*Major Targets: Prospects that hold offers and major prospects that Clemson has targeted for commitments. These are the top-tier prospects the program has its eyes fixed on.

Also this week, CUTigers recruiting spent a lot of time on the phones and social networks gathering a huge and impressive visitor list for the upcoming Clemson versus FSU game. And with Clemson being recently named #1 in the initial CFB Playoff Rankings, the list is increasing in both size and profile. Major targets from 2016 to the 2019 prospects are lining up to see the game in Death Valley this weekend.

The two biggest targets coming to the game on Saturday are 5-star DT Dexter Lawrence and 5-star LB Rahshaun Smith. Smith will bring with him talented IMG ATH Jordan Anthony, another Maryland star currently relocated to IMG in Bradenton, FL. Anthony will be in the 2017 class.

Lawrence will have his mother and brother, Devon (2017 RB prospect), with him and stay through Sunday evening on his Official Visit. As of today, it’s still an NCST/Clemson race for the big-time DT, if you were to press us for an answer. We will reach out to Dexter and get his reaction to his visit next week. He has set a December 14th announce date and has upcoming visits to Ohio State, and LSU and possibly Florida on the horizon.

Another “official visitor” we can confirm will be at the game is Treymane Anchrum from Powder Springs, GA will be attending and using his Official here with the Tigers for this weekend’s match up. As of today, it’s a Clemson/Nebraska race for the big OL from McEachern HS. But with the bad season in Lincoln and potential coaching change rumbling already for new Nebraska coach Mike Riley, and the fact that Tremayne has made it to Clemson twice in a month since his interest in the Tigers piqued, things are trending heavily for Clemson as it stands today. Look for an update on this recruitment early next week. A commitment announcement could follow his visit, as our sources indicate there is already evidence that Anchrum is ready to wrap up the process! Here is the list we have compiled so far. It is a very fluid situation, and we are adding visitors by the hour, so be sure to check later for updates!
