Clemson Football Recruiting Update

In his regular feature, Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel provides inside information and news about Clemson's commits and prospects. Have a look at the recruits who will be in attendance for Clemson's final 2015 game in Death Valley!

Welcome to this week’s Recruiting Radar and all your weekly info on the Clemson recruiting scene!

Tremayne Anchrum, Jr.

Clemson picked up another 2016 commitment this week, as Tremayne Anchrum Jr., a high 3-star prospect out of McEachern HS in Powder Springs, GA has picked the Tigers over Colorado and Nebraska.  The Tigers got into his recruitment a little later than expected when home state UGA filled up on scholarships at his position. He soon reached out to the Tigers to express interest, and after visiting for the ND game and FSU (his official visit), the road grader from McEachern picked Clemson University and pledged his verbal commitment on Thursday. Also of note, Tremayne is a mid- year enrollee. Clemson was one of the nation's leaders in early enrollees last season, and it worked out great for players like Mitch Hyatt.

4-star WR Bryan Edwards de-committed from South Carolina this week, and it's been a development we were tracking, as he opened his recruitment up a few weeks back after Head Coach Steve Spurrier resigned.  The Tigers are recruiting the Conway star at safety, and he is very interested in the job Clemson has done with its current safeties--particularly TJ Green, another big WR that was converted to safety after arriving on campus. Clemson is now the front- runner to secure Edwards's commitment moving forward.

Bryan Edwards

Owen Pappoe

As for visitors this weekend, there is a pretty good list of uncommitted prospects coming this weekend and three Clemson 2016 commits on their official visits.  One visitor of note is 2019 LB prospect and Grayson High School’s Owen Pappoe. He will be back in Death Valley for the first time since attending the Dabo Swinney Camp in June.

CUTigers took the time to speak with 2017 QB/ATH Malik Cunningham of Birmingham, AL, who will be making a second visit to Clemson in as many weeks, Malik is coming up and riding to the game with fellow Alabama prospect 4-star LB/Safety PJ Blue. He also sent us his recently released Hudl highlights. Guys, all I can say is enjoy. This kid is a “highlight reel on feet." Incidentally, PJ Blue decommitted from South Carolina shortly after Spurrier's retirement announcement.

Malik had these words to share on Clemson’s rise to #1 in the CFP Poll:

"They really deserve to be at the top with the strength of schedule, and the coaching staff is really leading the team in the right direction.”

RB commit Tavien Feaster was named a finalist for the US Army All-Amercian ‘Player of the Year” this week.

Speaking of POY awards, 2017 WR Target Ortre Smith's mom reached out to CUTigers Thursday to alert us that OrTre is a finalist for that award in the low country of SC this season.

****** New 2017 offer out this week :

The Clemson staff approved and reached out to 2017 DE Jordan Williams of Virginia Beach and tendered an offer to the Virginia prospect.  The territory is covered by Defensive Coordinator  Brent Venables and Mike Reed, but remember when dealing with Virginia kids, Clemson Recruiting Coordinator Brandon Streeter spent years in the state recruiting for Richmond and has deep ties to the state.
