Clemson Basketball Takes on Rutgers in Las Vegas

Clemson Basketball looks to rebound from its first loss of the season and improve to 4-1 when it faces Rutgers in Las Vegas Wednesday night.

The Clemson Tigers (3-1) take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-2) in the consolation round of the MGM Grand Main Event at the MGM Grand Arena (16,800 seats) in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday.

Jaron Blossomgame leads the Tigers in scoring with 17.3 points per 4 games, while shooting 60.5% from the field and 71.9% (23/32) in two-point field goal percentage. 

Rutgers has four players averaging double-figure scoring: Deshawn Freeman (14.8 points), Mike Williams (14.4 points), Corey Sanders (13.8 points) and Bishop Daniels (11.0 points).

Rutgers beat Clemson 69-64 last season in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at Littlejohn Coliseum. Jaron Blossomgame posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The series history is tied at 1-1, Clemson beat Rutgers 78-68 in the 2nd round of the 1999 NIT Tournament.

• Blossomgame tied for the team scoring lead in the opening game of the Main Event against UMass with 18 points, and continues to pace the Tigers offensively at just over 17 per game.

• Avry Holmes scored a season-high 18, including 13 in the second half. Holmes hit four three-point goals, upping his career total to 105.

• Gabe DeVoe secured his first career double-double against the Minutemen, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. The 10 rebounds were a career-high figure for the shooting guard.

• Clemson has done a good job of protecting the ball this season, as the Tigers have committed just 34 turnovers in four games. Clemson won the turnover margin last time out against UMass. Top Stories
