Clemson Basketball Rebounds with 76-56 Win over USC Upstate

Clemson improved to 5-2 on the season thanks to hot shooting in an impressive 76-56 win over USC Upstate at the Well in Greenville on Wednesday night.

The Clemson Tigers (5-2) defeated the South Carolina Upstate Spartans (1-8) at home on Wednesday. Clemson once again shot particularly well from three at 44% (13/29) on the game. The Tigers set a school record with at least 13 three-pointers in 2 straight games (made 14/28 vs. Minnesota on Monday).

“That was a good performance by our guys, considering the short turnaround,” head coach Brad Brownell said. “I thought our guys showed great energy and focus after not practicing yesterday due to the late arrival back from Minnesota.”

Avry Holmes scored a season-high 20 points with 6 assists and no turnovers. Holmes also went 3/4 from three. Freshman Ty Hudson also scored a season-high 11 points while shooting 3/6 from three, including three in a row.

Jaron Blossomgame added 11 points, on 4-7 shooting, and 6 rebounds.
7'0" junior college transfer Legend Robertin (England) played his first college game after being cleared by the NCAA on Tuesday. Robertin posted 4 points, including an emphatic dunk, and 2 rebounds on short court time. He left the game after taking a hard fall on his knee. Brownell said they don't know his status just yet.

One area of concern is the Tigers' free throw shooting. They were only 7-13 at the stripe tonight. The Tigers shot almost as well from the 3-point line (44.8%) as they did at the free throw line (53.8%).
Grantham was only 1-10 from the floor, and Brownell attributed his cold shooting to fatigue and weak legs after short rest from a late game at Minnesota Monday night.
