Saturday was a brisk and gorgeous winter day here in the upstate of South Carolina. And just what the Shriner’s ordered, as it was a “chamber of commerce” type day on the campus of Wofford College.
If you were there, you saw the North Carolina squad explode on offense, led by Clemson commit Cornell Powell, who had over 240 total yards on offense and kick returns. He took one kickoff 98 yards for a score on an impressive and athletic tour of the playing field inside of Gibb’s Stadium.
We had the chance to sit and speak briefly with Cornell earlier in the week, and here is what he had to say:
CUTigers: Tell us about the Shrine Bowl this week and how it's been for you.
Powell: "It's been a great week so far. A lot of preparation for this Saturday coming up in 2 days….it’s been fun playing with other high caliber talent, and I am ready to get to work on Saturday.”
CUTigers: Talk about the sets with you and Diondre Overton set up on same side of the formation .
Powell: “It's something every one is going to see at Clemson, so they will have to get used to it. With both of us on the same team, it’s kinda impossible to stop. Hopefully it's what a lot of people will see a lot of one day."
CUTigers: How does the Clemson "WRU" affect your decision-making? What do you think of Clemson’s #1 ranking going into the College Football Playoff?
Powell: “ I mean, they are #1 in the nation ,and that is very attractive to a recruit. It really caught my eye even though I was committed. I am just ready to get up there with hopefullly Diondre and Tavien Feaster, and this man right here (pointed to Nyles Pickney)."
