That was sent right out to all the WR prospects in the upcoming 2017/18 classes. You cannot buy this type of exposure!

   “Dexter the Destroyer” commits

Since our last Radar, Clemson landed arguably the #1 defensive tackle in the nation with the commitment of Dexter Lawrence. The Tigers overcame a late push by local and home town team NC State to pick up the big man’s commitment.  He signed all his financial aid paperwork and now is getting ready to join the Tigers on campus in January as an early enrollee.

Surprise 5-star QB flips from Tennessee to Clemson

As if the news of Lawrence’s commitment was not enough for the week, the Tigers continued their momentum on the recruiting trail and received a huge surprise when the #1 QB for the 2017 class, Hunter Johnson stunned the staff with a commitment, flipping from a previous commitment to Tennessee. Johnson was making noise earlier last week when he set up the Clemson visit ASAP after the offer was laid out there by Coach Streeter, which raised a lot of eyebrows. If you kept up with the Recruiting Radar last week, we knew something was up here for sure. Just know the staff had put in some previous work on this. Coach Streeter had been up to see Hunter earlier in the season and opened this door up with that trip.

Yet another blue chip QB commits to Clemson

The next day after gaining a commit from the #1 QB in the 2017 class, the Tigers were again surprised when 4-star QB Chase Brice of Loganville,GA and Grayson HS committed to the Tigers after months of speculation that he would eventually land in Clemson. Sources that were very close to this told us it was totally a numbers situation and Brice wanted to commit. He has no issue with competing with Johnson after they arrive, and Johnson was also made aware of Brice. Both QB’s are onboard and could be the catalyst to a very special 2017 recruiting class.

Footnote on Clemson QB commit Zerrick Cooper

Swinney and staff also reached out to Cooper on the day of the Johnson commitment and let Cooper know all was status quo with his commitment to the Tigers and the program’s same commitment to Cooper.

   Rahshaun Smith News

Rahshaun Smith is making noise this week--first releasing a top 4 and then dropping Maryland a few days later. This was directly related to his mentor leaving Maryland to join the Toledo staff.  With no connection to the current staff, it was his best interest to move on. He now cites a final three of Clemson, LSU and Auburn.  Looks like one way or another Smith is a Tiger.

New DB offer out during Shrine week.

Clemson offered Greer DB Troy Pride Jr., adding to his already stellar list of suitors that includes VT, the school he was committed to for most of the season.  Notre Dame has made a BIG push here, and Troy has told me that they lead at present.  We just don’t think the Tigers late offer will hold pat here.  We look for the Greer product to choose the Irish on Christmas Eve, when he has decided to make his announcement. If things are to change in the next three days, we will be on it, as we have intel and sources close to the situation here.

   Shrine Bowl:

Well Shrine week did not disappoint at all.  Clemson commits shone all week at practice and during the game itself.  All week long, we saw the likes of Tavien Feaster drop jaws at practice and the same was going on with the NC squad when dealing with Cornell Powell and Diondre Overton.

If you want to talk superlatives for the week, taking into account both practice and actual game for both squads, we wouild list the following players:

RB BJ Emmons, Alabama commit

WR Cornell Powell, Clemson commit

WR Diondre Overton, Clemson prospect

WR Diablo Devine, NC State commit

QB Austin Kendall, Oklahoma commit

DB Troy Pride Jr., Clemson prospect

RB Tavien Feaster, Clemson commit

OL John Simpson, Clemson prospect

OL Cade Stewart, Clemson prospect

DL Nyles Pinckney, Clemson commit

LB TJ Brunson

S   KJ Chamberlain
