Clemson Recruiting Update

In his weekly Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel updates you on the latest news for Clemson on the recruiting front!

To begin this week's Radar, let's go over last weeks official \visitors (commits and prospects) and recap the intel we have gathered since they left campus.  Also, we are going to discuss Rashan Gary and his potential visit to Tiger Town next week, as the Tigers will host a huge list of 2017 prospects with its annual "Junior Day” unofficial visit weekend.

We will also review the prospects that are on campus this weekend (1/22-24) and what we have heard on them.

******  12/15 Visitors

The weekend was attended by almost all the Clemson commit list, as it was set up as the annual Football Banquet weekend, where the team and staff celebrate the season and are awarded team awards for the season’s body of work.  The list of commits that attended: Cornell PowellDiondre OvertonZerrick CooperTavien FeasterJames SkalskiXavier KellyChandler Reeves and J.C. Chalk.

Uncommitted prospect included DB Trayvon Mullen and DT Michail Carter.

MULLEN: Going into the visit, the Tigers had an uphill battle to get Mullen on the commit list. The Florida product has been super tight-lipped on his recruitment, and we have gotten intel that the Clemson visit did the Tigers well in moving up in the pecking order that includes LSU and FSU as his top 2, at present, along with TCU behind them .  From what we have gathered since his departure from Clemson, the Tigers have drawn even with the top suitors, and if we had to put a percentage on this at present we would go with 33% FSU Clemson 33% and LSU%, with TCU hanging out.  Mullen is in LSU this weekend and has implied that he may take an unofficial visit to FSU next. If that visit does materialize, things will look a lot better for the Seminoles.  Stay tuned, as we continue to track Mullen through National Signing Day. Remember, Dabo still has an “in-home” visit with Mullen in his back pocket.

CARTER:  Going into the Clemson visit, Carter was still considering the Tigers along with Georgia, Alabama and Georgia Tech.  We can tell you that he left with the Tigers positioned to take over the top spot in the lead for his signature on NSD.  The Tigers used the weekend to showcase the NFL development and show the  Peach State product that early playing time is up to him, as Clemson has shown the propensity to play freshmen all over the field if the talent level and knowledge of the playbook are there. Also, there are developments outside Clemson that may affect Carter’s recruitment at Alabama and Georgia, as both of those schools may have filled up numbers-wise or are holding off for other targets they value more. Thus leaving the Tigers in a real good position to land Carter.  He is on a GT visit this weekend, but we do not see the Jackets as a team to worry about, and we could have a projection to Clemson for Carter in the upcoming days. Stay tuned!
