The Tigers picked up a much needed Safety in Isaiah Simmons from the Sunflower State of Kansas! Simmons provides a Big frame and body type that coach Brent Venables and Defensive backs Coach Mike Reed covet. Clemson won Simmons’ commitment over Big Ten Suitors Michigan and long time considered favorite Nebraska. Simmons makes two commits in the 2016 Class out of Kansas. Joining Big-time DE Xavier Kelly.
***Shrine Bowl OL and WR accept Grey Shirt and Walk on offers.
’16 Offensive Line Prospect and DW Daniel Star Cade Stewart has Committed to Clemson and will accept a Grey Shirt offer for the 2017 Class. And his Shrine bowl team mate Jayson Hopper WR out of Lexington, HS has accepted a “Preferred walk-on” Offer spurning full rides from the likes of App St and others. BOTH of these guys are examples of super hard workers and I am gonna predict now you WILL see these two on the field in the next few years. I know and followed each of these kids through the past 3 year of covering the area.
Jayson Hopper, Tavien Feaster and Cade Stewart are ALL Coming to Clemson now.
Cade Stewart projects at guard or center.
***Overview Signing day 2016:
Clemson started out this class with a small amount of scholarships to offer at that time, but due to pre-season and underclassmen declaring for the NFL the Tigers were able to create 21 spots for NSD and the plan was to take that number if possible. With what we have committed and what is out there the Tiger just may get to that number and not have to sacrifice quality to reach the quantity they desired in the class numbers wise. The Staff came into 2016 and needed to pick up a couple solid OL and did that. Also needed was help at Line Backer and the Tigers went out and picked Three and two of them considered the one of the nations best at the position. Skilled positions were not forgotten about with a 5 Star Rb and 4 Star QB along with arguably the best WR class in the nation. Has the Tigers getting exactly what they wanted and needed out of this class for 2016.
Official Announcement Times:
Trayvon Mullen 9:15 AM (ESPNU)
K'Von Wallace 9:30 AM
John Simpson 12:30 PM
Rashan Gary 1:10 PM (ESPN2)
Originally were really not tracking Gary until we were absolutely sure he would make the visit to Clemson. Initially he had been on Campus once during Easter Break and was not able to access many of the staff and coaches nor able to really take in the Campus with proper escorts and guidance . Now that he has been to Clemson and it looks as if the Tigers were able to make up the huge lead long time proposed leader Michigan has held. The Family was there from Fri-Sun and came out so impressed with the Tigers and the Hill that was Michigan’s Lead was diminished and eradicated and the Gary’s left torn about just where Rashan wanted to go.
Clemson needed a “Home Run” and instead of that hit a “Grand Slam”. Per sources from inside the family we can say that this was NOT the perceived “visit to see family” and that the interest in Clemson was genuine.
A big part of the Number one over all players recruitment has been his mom, and she has led the way in steering her son in the direction she feels he needs to go. And her impression leaving the visit is the one that resonated the most. Mom was blown away with Clemson and its now infamous “Family atmosphere” and she left showering heaps of love toward the team and its Chemistry and most of all HOW they interacted with her son while on campus. She said she never saw any animosity or stand offish behavior only genuine accommodating behavior. Welcoming the New Jersey product with open arms like he had already been apart of the team. Visit host Christian Wilkins also made a new friend in Miss Coney. She let it be known how impressed she was with the fellow north east resident
And we will not understate how much having his uncle and favorite cousin, both located in near by Anderson and able to keep Rashan a little bit of a “Family” feel is also playing heavily into Clemson’s favor here. Do not underestimate how important it can be to have a familiar face as these kids are prone to get a little “home sick” from time to time.
With all this said and all the hills climbed by the Tigers in recent weeks you have to remember he’s been to Michigan Seven (7) times, has former and current team mates on the roster or committed there. And finally his ex High School head Coach was hired on there as Player Development Coach. So Michigan has a Lot in their favor. Now Gary has to decide if he wants to compete for Championships in 2016 with Clemson and not get double team surrounded by 5 star talent everywhere, or go to Michigan and be a part of Harbaugh’s rebuilding of the Wolverines.
At this time we are at 51% Clemson and 49% Michigan as of this Radar. We project Gary to CLEMSON!
SIMPSON ANNOUNCE FEED (12:30 PM):
Clemson was the first to offer and have stood tall and with Simpson since his recruitment began and came very close to pulling the trigger on an early commitment many times during the process. With a host of schools coming in and out of the picture all this time. Only Clemson has stood in there through the thick and thin of Big John’s recruitment . Simpson instead stood pat and decided to ride out his recruitment and make a few visits to South Carolina, LSU and Florida to go with his many visit to Clemson. After all the visit and impending coaches visit after the season He’s boiled it down to Clemson and Florida. Coach Jim McElwain was in with new OC Kurt Roper to see the bigman from Charleston last week and was followed by Dabo Swinney and recruiter of record Tony Elliot. We think the Tigers long standing relationship here trumps the Gators and we are Projecting Simpson to CLEMSON.
The Tigers got in real late on the Virginia product. As did almost all of College Football.. As seen in the past month and the flurry of offers and coaches stopping by from P5 schools all over the map to visit Wallace. Clemson’s interest was spearheaded by DB coach Mike Reed and the staff has really done a lot of work here in a very short window.
At the same time teams like Pitt and Ohio State have come and tried to lure the Cincinnati commit away and we are hearing here in the 11th hour the Spartans of Michigan State are also trying to make last minute push. As they have one of his team mates committed. Scout.Com regional analyst and friend of CUTigers.com Micheal Clark has had lots of exposure to Wallace and explains that his Senior Season he blew up and basically put his team on his shoulders on the way to a State Championship. here is Mike’s analysis on Wallace.
"Wallace is a physical, playmaker in the secondary. He does a nice job of getting in and out of his backpedal smoothly. Wallace reads the quarterback's eyes and breaks quickly on the football. He is comfortable in man or zone coverage and is very agressive. Wallace needs to continue to get stronger and add weight to his frame, but he has a high ceiling and his best football is ahead of him.”
Ohio St. was perceived to have an edge as this was his Boyhood favorite team and he visited Columbus after Clemson and it was thought after the visit the Buckeyes had the advantage here. Not so fast my friend! Ohio St was expected to lose a CB to Louisville and that is what got the Buckeyes to the table in the Wallace sweepstakes. We now know that CB is sticking with OSU and there now may be an issue as far as space for Wallace in Columbus.
It looks like Wallace and his Ohio State chances have lessened with the news that a previous CB Commitment that was thought to flip tp Louisville will now stand and hold on his Ohio State pledge. Thus Wallace has Clemson, Pitt, Cincy and Michigan State as possible destinations here. We think the relationship built between Wallace and Clemson DB Coach Mike Reed Super Cedes the rest of the pack here.
As of this writing, we are projecting Wallace to CLEMSON!
Of all the prospects the Tigers are still in it with Mullen has been the hardest to read and its been and ever changing map of teams for the Army All American DB. We thought LSU was out and numbers would dictate they are done, but it may have been conveyed to the Mullen camp that they will make room for the Cocunut Creek Star. Also FSU is still awaiting another DB Carlos Becker and if he pulls the trigger before Mullen it would leave no space there either with Clemson’s need of a lock down corner. Mullen is a player that the Coaches Covet. As of this writing we are still not confident as to which way Mullen will go. a true singing day surprise awaits one of these Three schools on Wednesday.
"Defensive Backs with length are always in demand and at 6-foot-2, Mullen is one of the biggest. Has long arms and while a little lean today, his frame is capable of carrying plenty of weight. Explosive out of his breaks, it is his ability to flip his hips that is his calling card. Size gives him ability to match-up with the taller wide receivers in the red-zone"
As of this writing so much is still going on in the back gorund with Mullen and we cannot give a true projection at this time. If LSU had not entered back into the Fray we would have a clear picture here. NO projection its just that close guys. You could say 33% all the way around between LSU, FSU and the Tigers.
This weekend saw the Tigers host over 2 dozen prospects from all over the country and some real BIG TIME guys in to see what the Clemson Tigers had to offer. We projected that a couple of Commits would come out of the weekend and that is exactly what happened in Pickens County on Friday and again on Sunday as Mid Western and Ohio big man Matt Bockhorst chose Clemson and was followed by another 4 star OL in Florida product Blake Vinson also committed. To add to the 2017 Haul and go with Noah DeHond and Grey Shirt Cade Stewart. The skill players also were everywhere and from the reaction and barometer we have been able to measure since. Clemson stole the show with many of the biggest gets in the southeast and beyond. We can tell you that we PROJECT DB/CB LeAnthony Williams out of Roswell HS in Georgia to Commit to Clemson on Thursday as he has set that as his announce date. Also we are tracking no less than FIVE other top 300 recruits with rumblings of a possible commit to the Tigers in the near future. Stay tuned the 2017 Class is on FIRE!
