Sampson Announcment Today

According to head coach Tommy Bowden, an announcement will be made today on the status of linebacker Eric Sampson. It is believed that he will be reinstated to the team after being dismissed last season for violating team rules.

Sampson, who would be be a critical addition to the Tigers linebacking corps this year, would likely go back to his whip linebacker position, or could perhaps see time as a rover.

His interception of Georgia Tech quarterback A.J. Suggs prevented a 4th quarter Yellow Jackets comeback. Sampson ended the 2002 regular season with 79 total tackles and one interception. reported after the Orange & White game this past April that Sampson would have a great shot to return to the team in 2003.

"I'm coming back," Sampson said in an interview after the spring game. "Coach Bowden has been following my progress and I just need to keep getting my academics in order and everything will take care of itself."

The Tigers are set to begin practice today at 2:30. Top Stories
