Marcus Vick Update

You know the name and you've heard about him all summer long. Its Marcus Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick. This 6'0, 180 lb. mega-athlete has all the traditional powers in division 1-A college football beating down his door. Miami, Tennessee, Florida State and Clemson are all in the picture right now. Where do the Tigers stand with this phenomenon?

Marcus Vick, a Newport News, VA standout has all the tools to succeed at the next level. The question is, who will he be playing for next year?

In his most recent interview with Jamie Newberg Vick stated that, "Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia, Clemson, Missouri, and Michigan are the schools I like right now. I know that I will visit Georgia, Tennessee and Notre Dame for sure."

Vick has said on several occasions that the schools' offensive schemes will play a significant role in his final decision.

Last season as a junior, Vick threw for over 2,100 yards and completed 20 touchdown passes, while rushing for over 600 yards and 11 more scores. He also completed over 60% of his passes and had better than a 2-to-1 TD to INT ratio. (only 6 INTS all of last year)

Like his older brother, he has lightning fast quickness and a rocket arm. Some experts have said that he can already throw the football 70 yards in the air. They've also indicated that he seems to be better at reading defensive coverages and going through his progressions than his older brother.

Bruce Feldman of ESPN, who ranked Vick as the top prospect in the country earlier this summer, has stated that "Marcus' fundamentals are precise, which is the reason why he is so accurate on his throws. He has a short stride and his head doesn't move." With his 2.2 GPA and 1090 score on the SAT, Vick is already a full NCAA academic qualifier.

As a multi-dimensional athlete, Vick has already seen some time at safety this year but clearly the focus is on his performance at the quarterback position. Vick's Top 10, and even Top 5, have been changing almost weekly all summer long. Warwick High School head coach Tommy Reamon has conceded that Notre Dame, Michigan and Florida are all long shots but that the other schools are all in serious contention. Tennessee, Miami, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State and Virginia are all on equal ground at this point. On several different occasions this summer, Miami, Georgia, and Notre Dame have all circulated in his top 2 or 3.

The fact is, Marcus Vick is nowhere close to a decision, and he'll be waiting until after the season to set up his official visits and move forward.

A HUGE factor that could possibly work in favor of the Georgia Bulldogs or possibly Clemson, is the fact that he wants to be close to his brother in Atlanta. The Vick family is a close one, and both his mother and Michael have mentioned that they would like to see him close to the Atlanta area. That could be a benefit for Tigers, considering that the Clemson campus is only about 140 miles away from the Georgia Dome itself.

Make no mistake; Tommy Bowden has personally been in touch with Warwick Head Coach Tommy Reamon and Marcus himself on several occasions. The recruiting of this young athlete is going to be fierce to say the least and we'll see his top 3 juggle around multiple times before signing day. The Tigers are definitely in the mix, and with an offense that could be the perfect fit for Vick's skills, I'd say we are right in there with Miami, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.
