Folks, I just wanted to brief you on a player I have scouted for a couple of years who is located less than 10 minutes from the Clemson campus. Brad Johnson is a LB/DE prospect at Pendleton High who has blown up ball carriers and quarterbacks all over the the upstate of South Carolina for the past few years. He currently has offers from VT, GT, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Duke, and he is looking to see that list expand. The hometown Tigers have also reached out to let him know they would like to get him back in camp this year and work out at linebacker.
Last year, he visited the Dabo Swinney camp and worked out as a defensive end. His size is perfect for an outside linebacker at the next level, and he has the speed to put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer. As of late, South Carolina is trending. Their staff has had the Pendleton product on campus as recently as this month. Clemson has yet to offer, and the staff, who value Johnson as a LB, is biding its time here. They really want Brad to make that return trip to camp in June, and we feel the offer is waiting for him with that camp visit if it does eventually transpire. Brad values himself at the defensive end position, and this is something that Clemson and Coach Brent Venables will have to sit down with Johnson and discuss.
Look for this 2017 LB/DE's recruitment to really amp up here in the next few weeks leading into the summer and upcoming fall. And stay tuned here to CUTigers, as we continue to track this under-the-radar prospect here on the Recruiting Radar Screen and CUTigers.com.
