Weekly Clemson Recruiting Update

In his weekly Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel updates you on the latest news and intel on the Clemson recruiting front!

****Camp Continues

With the weather outside getting hotter and hotter, so is the action on the practice fields on campus as the Clemson staff welcomes a second group of campers to Pickens County this week. And with that comes a list of Clemson recruiting targets also set to compete in the camp setting or just stop in and visit the campus.

Notable recruits that have confirmed to be arriving in Tiger Town over the weekend are heralded safety Devon Hunter out of Virginia along with big-time corner and Atlanta native A.J. Terrell to highlight a visitor list that is growing by the day, as prospects are showing up unannounced or just detouring their routes to add Clemson as a destination on their spring visit tours.

A great example is a pair of Texas recruits: Drue Jackson (WR) and Jalen Mayden (QB) of Sachse,TX, who made the detour and trip into Tiger Town to check out the camp and speak to the staff.  Mayden, who has the nick-name “Moose” has a lot of buzz around him, as the southpaw signal caller is really taking off in a lot of recruiting circles with his offer list currently expanding on a daily basis.

****Devon Hunter Coming to Clemson

5-star Virginia athlete and Clemson target Devon Hunter will be back in Clemson this Sunday after a trip to the plains of Auburn and on his way back north up I-85 to his home state of VA.

Hunter sits right at the very top of Clemson’s recruiting board and is considered “over-sign” worthy as a player that almost any Power Five school would make room for on their roster.  He is highly coveted for his exceptional ball skills and athletic ability.  All spring and early summer, he has impressed at many of the skills camps and combines and shown why he is considered arguably the top athlete in the nation for 2017.

****New 2018 4-star DB Offer out in Lone Star State

Clemson again finds a defensive back in the Lone Star State and offers 2018 CB Jalen Green. Stay tuned, as the Clemson staff and Texas are becoming more and more familiar with each other here in 2016.

****Texas Teammates Make Trek to Clemson

Clemson and its staff’s interest into the Lone Star State has continued at a flurry pace this year, as Coach Mike Reed and Brent Venables made the trek into the state in May, evaluating and offering several prospects from the traditional Big 12 and SEC-heavy recruiting territory.

It's no mistake the Tigers are taking advantage of the high-profile media coverage and exposure of their appearance in the National Championship Game to seize on recruiting areas not previously considered targets for ACC teams. With the current awareness, the Tigers are now able to recruit on a national level like never before with the Tiger Paw being a recognized brand now all across the US.

****"Tank Talks" Recruiting Special Report by Chad Simmons

Gary McDaniel

Highly sought-after 4-tar safety prospect "Tank" Davondre Robinson took the time to sit down with Scout’s Chad Simmons and give an update on his recruitment.

At present, we still think it is an in-state battle for Tank and his signature in 2017, with the Tigers still holding a slight edge at present in this analyst's opinion.  Of course, we will update you on the local star’s recruitment over the next few months, as we expect this one to go down to the very end.

****New OL Offer Out

The Clemson staff and Coach Robbie Caldwell step in and lay down an offer to a camper in OL prospect and Houston County Georgia native Deontrey Hill during the first session of the Dabo Swinney Camp.

****Boulds Names a Pecking Order

Gary McDaniel

Paramus, New Jersey 2017 Teammates and Clemson Prospects Drew Singleton and Corey Bolds

Clemson  defensive line target and Paramus, NJ star Corey Bolds has come out with a top ten and has Clemson listed inside his top four schools. Bolds and teammate Drew Singleton are prime prospects on the Clemson staff’s wish list for 2017.

Look for both players to make more than one trek back to Tiger Town as the 2016 season plays out on the field here at Death Valley.  Clemson and Michigan are the two teams to beat here for both of these stellar defenders from the Garden State of New Jersey. Harbaugh and Michigan have the players' former coach and superstar teammates Jabrill Peppers and Rashan Gary helping their chances.

Stay tuned here to CUTigers, as we continue to follow the recruitment of both of these prep stars.
