****The Return of “Friday Night Lights”

With the heat of the summer coming to an apex here at the 1st of August, so comes the sound and smells of high school football all over the recruiting map. http://www.scout.com/college/clemson/story/1600257-friday-night-lights Last season, we started the weekly “Friday Night Lights” report here on CUTigers.com, where we go out and visit local or regional high schools to take in their games and report on the recruits we saw. Last year we came across guys like Zacch PickensStephon Wynn and Kavesz Sherard of TL Hanna at High School at jamborees in early August and were the first site to report on these now 4-star and potential 5-star recruits. All three now have double-digit Power Five offers!

****Jordan Williams to Announce Commitment

Jordan Williams, the big-time Virginia native and arguably the #1 defensive end on the Clemson board, will announce his commitment at a ceremony later on this week at his high school.  Williams has had a lot of pressure to stay in-state at Virginia Tech. He has been personally recruited by Clemson defensive head man Brent Venables, and the Tigers want him bad.

The 4-star DE and alumnus of The Opening Finals was just recently in Clemson with family in tow, as he spent the weekend on campus for the All In Cookout. He received the Orange Carpet treatment from the Tigers' staff and was able to show his family around campus to see all the amenities that come with college life, from luxuriant living conditions to all the academic resources that will enable a player to live the college life and still commit himself to the day-to-day rigors of a student-athlete.

Williams spoke exclusively to CUTigers last week following his visit and had nothing but glowing things to say about it, as you can read in our Radar. At this time, we feel confident in projecting Williams to Clemson later on this week so stay tuned, as we plan to provide coverage of his announcement ceremony on August 6th!

****2018  #1 LB Talks Tigers

Just recently, Clemson received a visit from arguably the top linebacker prospect in the 2018 class. Teradja Mitchell is a stud out of the state of Virginia that has blown up on Power Five offer boards and radar screens all over the college football world.

Clemson is sitting in great position with the Virginia blue chipper after his stop into Tiger Town to see what Clemson had to offer.  Citing several reasons, his interest in Clemson is more than just a fleeting fancy. We had a chance to speak with Teradja, and here is what he told CUTigers following his visit.

CUTigers:  Teradja, tell us how the visit to Clemson went on Friday.

TM:  “It was fun, I loved everything about it. The vibe of the coaching staff was great. Best part was definitely talking to them.”

CUTigers:  Did you get a chance to tour the facilities on campus?

TM:  “Yes, I got to tour the new and upcoming facility that's still under construction. It's going to be awesome!”

CUTigers:  Tell us your thoughts on Coach Brent Venables.

TM:  “Very energetic. I love his passion for the game of football. That's something I value when I'm looking at a coach. Not to mention he's arguably the best defensive coordinator in the country. Great coach and great person to be around.”

CUTigers:  Did you get a chance to sit down with Head Coach Dabo Swinney?

TM:   “Unfortunately I was unable to speak to coach Swinney because he was out of town.”

CUTigers: Are you planning a return visit any time soon?

TM: “I definitely plan on visiting again most likely to come down for a game.”

CUTigers:  What stands out about the Clemson defense?

TM:  “Defensively, the stats they put up in the past 5 years are mind-blowing, and they also preach family and life after football, which plays a big part in making my decision.”

CUTigers:  What player in college football or the NFL would you say you model your game on the field after?

TM:  “I try to build my own brand but I get it a lot from other people around that I play like [former Notre Dame LB] Jaylon Smith.”

Stay tuned, as we follow the talented linebacker's recruitment all season long!

****Players Naming Tigers in Final Groups

As the summer winds down and the season fast approaches, a lot of this season's uncommitted prize prospects are starting to name their top groups of schools, trimming down their list of suitors and setting up visits during the season to get closer to their decisions.

This week, three of Clemson’s major radar targets announced final groups.  Most notably, 4-star LB Drew Singleton named his final schools, led by Clemson and Michigan for the Garden State blue chipper.

The closer we get to September, the more prospects you will see trying to expedite the process by eliminating schools and concentrating on the the ones they feel are the best potential fit.

Stay tuned here at CUTigers.com and the Radar Screen for the latest in all Clemson-related recruiting news!
