Well, it's Football season, as the Tigers come down from the big win over the other Tigers from the Plains in Alabama. The recruiting game is in full swing here in week one of September. Last week, with game prep and the big away match up coming up and the travel to Alabama did not allow the staff to get out and visit games to take in prospects in person. Look for that to change in this upcoming week, as the staff is expected to traverse the area and be on site for Friday Night Lights this week all over the region.
No breaking news this week. A small visitor list of recruits was relegated down to just about tow prospects that both teams are seeking to sign. We'll update that news here inside the Radar. Also, expect the staff to start pushing players to set up their officials with home games coming up here in early September and October. We will gather a visitor list each week and report on Friday before each home game and, as we did last season, get recruits' reactions and pictures of them on the visits to share right here on the Radar.
We can let you know that previously confirmed visitors Xavier McKinney and Xavier Thomas did not make the trip to the Plains to take in the #2-ranked Tigers of Clemson and their SEC host from Auburn. Both opted to stay home. In the case of Thomas, it was weather related, as the remnants of the Hurricane were passing through and causing issues. McKinney just opted not to make the trip.
With the Tigers putting the final touches on this 2017 class, you can expect things to get expedited on the recruiting trial with the Tigers and their remaining targets in this class. The staff is really trying to wrap up 2017 and make a move on the 2018 and ’19 classes.
Stay tuned, as we continue to bring you the best and most up-to-date recruiting info and intel here on the Radar and also on the Radar Screen Forum here at CUTigers.com!
****Clemson Commit Mike Jones, Jr. Talks Tigers!
Clemson’s lone 2018 commit on the board at this time is IMG Academy’s star linebacker Mike Jones Jr.. He was recently in the area to play in a highly anticipated and nationally covered game when his IMG Ascenders out of Bradenton, Florida traveled north to the suburbs of Atlanta to take on fellow Clemson commit (2017) QB Chase Brice and the Rams of Grayson, a highly regarded team of their own. The Rams came in ranked #2 and IMG #4 nationally.
The outcome was a happy one for the athletic linebacker from IMG, as the Ascenders left Georgia with a 26-7 win over the highly touted Rams. Both squads were loaded with Power Five talent, and it was showcased on the field all night. Jones was as impressive a prospect that was on the field and accounted for a half dozen stops, a big Interception on the first play of the second half and a 4th down conversion on a fake punt.
Mike took the time after the win to speak with CUTigers about his Clemson recruitment and more!
****2017 Kicker on the Radar
As the 2017 class is getting its final pieces in place, look for the Tigers to potentially add a kicker to this class by the time February rolls around here in Clemson. The staff is now looking at IMG star kicker Cooper Graham out of Asheville, NC--now the starting kicker and punter for the IMG Ascenders out of Bradenton, Florida.
Cooper made the move to IMG this past year and has taken on all the kicking duties for the heralded IMG team. CUTigers got to see Cooper in action last week at the IMG versus Grayson matchup--a game to which Cooper contributed with a few extra points and a 37-yard field goal. He also displayed his strong leg by kicking the ball deep in the end zone on just about every kickoff, depriving Grayson the opportunity for any big returns.
At present, Graham has interest in three schools: Clemson, home state North Carolina and Iowa State. And he’s looking to take a visit to Clemson for an upcoming game--possibly for the Louisville game during IMG’s bye week, along with Clemson 2018 linebacker commit Mike Jones, Jr. in tow.
Cooper has been hearing from the staff since the restrictive NCAA dead period ended on 9/1, and he is setting up his visit to see the Tigers , but this is not his first trip here. Cooper has family that are enrolled on campus, and he visited along with Jones and IMG RB Asa Martin back in the spring.
CUTigers was in Loganville,GA for the IMG versus Grayson contest and took the time to speak with Cooper.
****4-Star 2018 WR Talks Tigers and Recruiting
WRU is loading up here in the 2017 class with Tee Higgins and Amari Cooper added to the fold. The 2018 class is already starting to build with the commitment of IMG Academy’s Mike Jones, Jr. picking the Tigers of Pickens County over a who’s who of offers. Well now 2018 WR Brian Hightower is a player you need to add to the fray as the Tigers and their WRU brand are targeting the Bradenton, FL prospect to join them.
With a laundry list of offers already on the board, Hightower cites visits to the west coast to see UCLA and USC along with SEC and ACC teams all on the Radar. He's visited Clemson as recently as this past June and plans on making the trip back to the upstate of South Carolina very soon to take in a live Clemson game with Death Valley in full effect.
Hightower is also a member of the IMG team that has a connection to Clemson on the current roster in Clemson freshmen linebacker Shaq Smith, who is an IMG Alum and was in Suburban Atlanta to take in the IMG versus Grayson contest.
CUTigers had the chance to speak with Brian after the Ascenders' 26-7 victory over 2017 QB commit Chase Brice’s Grayson Rams.
****CJ Avery Sets Clemson Visit
The Granada Mississippi prospect C.J. Avery has decided that Clemson will get one of his five official visits prior to rendering a decision. He reached out to the staff and set up a visit to see the Tigers take on the Orange of Syracuse on November the 5th. Stay tuned, as CUTigers is currently still tracking the safety prospect with one defensive back spot left on the Clemson board.
Avery, who announced a top five consisting of Clemson, FSU, Ole Miss, Louisville and in-state Mississippi State, will announce in December prior to early enrollment for the 2017 season.

****Trevor Lawrence Update
Trevor is sticking to his guns and being quiet about all things regarding his recruitment. Still a two team race with everyone else still trying to get Trevor to open up his recruitment even more. But as it stands, he will visit Clemson and UGA at games on campus before rendering a decision and choosing the school he will spend the next 3 to 4 years of his football and student life.
Here is a diddy we found online this week and thought we would share it here along with Trevor’s reaction when he was tweeted this from an obvious Clemson fan.
