Monday's Practice Report

C.J. Gaddis has been doing his best D.J. Shockley imitation this week in practice. "He's probably one of the more talented guys we have on the team," head coach Tommy Bowden said. Gaddis is directing the scout team offense this week against the first team defense in preparation for Saturday's game against Georgia.

"D.J. Shockley obviously has more height and experience, and all of that but C.J. is a pretty good athlete," Bowden added.

As the Tigers begin final preparations for the 9th ranked Georgia Bulldogs, competition is still the name of the game when it comes to a number of positions.

Obviously, one of the main positions we are talking about is at left cornerback, where the battle between walk-on Toure Francis and converted running back Tye Hill is still going strong. This comes after the athletic department released the two-deep depth chart Monday afternoon with Tye Hill on the first team.

"I think it's still very competitive," Bowden said. "I think they will both play a lot, but I don't think either one of them have separated from the other just yet. We may have to wait until after the first game to make a decision."

The competition will continue throughout the week at a number of positions, including running back.

"Right now, it might be Duane Coleman, or it might not. He's been the most consistent during the preseason, you know with assignments and performance. Assignments are going to be a pretty big and all of that," Bowden added.

Bowden attributes Coleman's rise up the depth chart to a number of things, but mostly his attentiveness during his redshirt year.

"He's pretty attentive. When you sit out a year like he did I think it makes him a little more hungrier too, and plus he was a pretty talented player coming of high school."

The Tigers' head coach is undecided about whether or not the team will practice in full pads again before the Georgia game.

"They had a little more spring today (after a substantial break), a little more balance. Right there at the end it got good and hot. I might go full pads tomorrow."

Injury Update
DL Todd McClinton will not play football during the 2003 regular season as he will have to wait 6 months without going through any more "episodes" before he is cleared.

Freshman offensive guard Brandon Pilgrim has a lower back strain, but the injury is not believed to be serious. Top Stories
