Fall is now in full effect here in the upstate of SC, as Mother Nature does her annual thing, changing the fall foliage of the tree canopy surrounding the hills and valleys from green to yellow, red and auburn. With that, the bye week has come and gone, and yet again we sit here looking at another game against a top-tier defense and ACC foe in divisional rival FSU.
With regard to recruiting, this is a big-time game for the Tigers. As we are all aware, Florida is prime recruiting territory for the Tigers and practically the entire FBS as well. It's well-documented that the Sunshine State produces more FBS talent per capita than any other state with Texas, Georgia and California being close behind.
A who’s-who is expected in Tallahassee for the prime-time ABC game on Saturday inside of Doak Walker Stadium. A lot of the same players FSU has on its visitor docket hold offers from Clemson. Stay tuned this week, as we reach out to the Sunshine State and gather a list of potential visitors that have the Tigers on their radar screen.
It's been a very slow week on the recruiting trail for the Tigers other than a few of those coaches that made it out to see some prospects . We'll document that in the Radar this week, along with weekly updates and intel. But stay tuned with things coming down to the stretch run for the ACC. Upcoming home game visitor lists will expand exponentially as season's end comes closer and 2017 prospects set up their official visits. So stay tuned to the Recruiting Radar Screen forum and CUTigers.com for the latest info and intel on the recruiting front!
****Coaches on the Road
Coaches Brandon Streeter and Tony Elliot made the trip down to the North Charleston area to take in Fort Dorchester’s win with 2018 ATH prospect Dakereon Joyner at the helm. Joyner has had a stellar season as a dual-threat QB, racking up huge numbers so far in the 2016 campaign. The Tigers have offered him as an athlete, and he’s seeking the QB offer. However, with Clemson heavily involved with the Trevor Lawrence lottery, we just can't see this offer transpiring unless Lawrence spurns the Tigers in favor of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Joyner has a legit QB offer from in-state rival South Carolina along with Virginia Tech and NC State--all of whom Joyner currently favors over childhood favorite Clemson. It's no secret Joyner is a Clemson fan, but his noticeable absence from this year's visitor lists and his multiple appearances in Columbia show that the low country star has quarterbacking on his mind, and the Tigers are reevaluating this at present. So stay tuned, as we continue to cover his recruitment moving forward.
Coach Dan Brooks made the trip up to see the most notable absentee from the Clemson commit list this season when it comes to Death Valley visits. Cordarrian Richardson has had issues in finding reliable transportation from Memphis to the Pickens County destination that is Clemson’s Death Valley. Memphis is almost 8 hours by car and on the fringe of requiring a plane ticket, so it's not a very economical venture for some families.
****Who’s Left on the 2017 Board
With our bi-weekly update on who’s still on the board for this 2017 class, we stand today with a total of 14 commitments in the fold at present. Mid-year enrollees Hunter Johnson, Baylon Spector, Logan Rudolph and Blake Vinson are all coming to campus in December to get a head start on the 2017 campaign. Look for the offer list to expand a little closer to the end of the season, as usually at that time we hear about looming potential transfers and players that have decided to forego their football careers to move on to other things. This usually opens up one or two more spots in the class by the time Signing Day rolls around.
Here is our list of who is left currently on the Clemson big board for the 2017 class:
Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama
Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, UGA
Clemson, Alabama, UGA, Ohio State
Clemson, Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio State, Florida
Clemson, Miss State, Ole Miss, Auburn
Clemson, Michigan, Rutgers, Notre Dame
A few players were in action last Friday night, and here are the results we gathered from current players on the Clemson commit list and prospects of note in the 2018 class.
6 receptions for 157 yards and 3 TD's in 55-14 win over Carter
89-yard INT return for TD in loss. See the tweet below:
15-28 for 258 yards and 4 TD's in 48-7 win
145 yards rushing and 3 TD's in the 28-2 win over Hoke County
****New Offer Out
Clemson reached out to the state of Ohio and offered one of the state's top overall prospects in big-time defensive lineman Aeneas Hawkins. The star prospect has been to Clemson already this year and has ties to the program in that he is the Godson of former Clemson All-ACC and NFL star Brenton Buckner.
Clemson was in the process of evaluating the big man on his last visit, and he left without the offer. Since then, he's seen a laundry list of suitors come to the table with no less than 8 offers, including Power Five heavyweights FSU, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee to name a few. Stay tuned here, as the Tigers are positioned with help and will ultimately factor into Hawkins's decision.
