Weekly Clemson Recruiting Update

In our weekly Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel updates you on the latest news and intel on the Clemson recruiting front!

Happy Halloween

As the haunting season arrives and departs here at the end of October and the start of November, the Clemson season continues on schedule as the Tigers enter this week 8-0 and fresh off the big victory in Tallahassee over the Seminoles of Florida State.  A host of big-time recruits were on hand to witness the Tigers' win in Doak Campbell Stadium. The likes o Xavier Thomas, Richard Gouraige, Teradja MitchellJarez ParksJeffrey Okudah, Andrew CunninghamKhalan LabornDonovan Peoples-Jones and Lorenzo Lingard were all on hand to see the ACC Atlantic matchup take place.

Clemson served itself well by coming out with the win and at the same time showcasing a number of talented freshmen and sophomores and even upperclassmen from the Florida area. Players like Jordan Leggett, who had the game-winning TD and is from nearby Navarre, FL, were on display in front of a national TV audience. Also players like Deon Cain, Ray-Ray McCloud and Artavis Scott all hail from the nearby Tampa area, as does Austin Bryant. The talented DE went to school in nearby Thomasville, GA.

As the smoke settles on the big win in Tallahassee, the staff and team turn their eyes toward another ACC Atlantic opponent, as Syracuse brings their uber fast-paced offense to Clemson next Saturday. The visitor list is already starting to compile, and we can at this time confirm a few of the attendees with more to follow later this week. As usual, we will release a complete list on Friday night.

The staff also extended two new offers last week to big-time defensive prospects from Tennessee and Georgia for the 2018 class., and we expect a few more offers to go out before the end of the upcoming high school season.  As we have said in the past, you can count on the unexpected in the recruiting process to always have a place in the “numbers “ game.  And this year will be no exception, as those “out of left field” prospects show up all over the radar.

Two great examples this year have been Conway, SC offensive lineman Gunner Britton and Peach State star Brenton Cox. These are two players that were off the radar screen prior to the season and now sit as primary targets on numerous Power Five big boards. So stay tuned here to CUTigers.com and the Radar Screen forum, as we keep you updated on all the intel and info from the Clemson recruiting front.

****Commits and Prospects React to the FSU Win

After the big win in Tallahassee, we reached out a few of the Clemson commits and some prospects the Tigers are still recruiting for the upcoming 2017 and 2018 classes. Here are their reactions to the Tigers' 37-34 win over the Seminoles.

"It was a great win. The D-Line play was stellar."

"The game was a shootout. Clemson played really well. I'd say a lot better than the past two games. Excited to see them against Syracuse and see how they'll play. Week in and week out, they continue to prove that they know how to win."

"People have counted us out all year. Everyone has had something negative to say at some point or another, but nobody can deny the fact that we are 8-0 and we know how to win."

"I was really excited for their win. I was at the game, and it was one of the best games I've ever been to. It takes a really good team to go into an environment like that and win.”

"I think it was a very good team win by Clemson. I'm not too much of an FSU fan so I was rooting for Clemson. I love how the defense stepped up in the last couple of minutes even after giving up that long 4th down.”

****Preliminary Clemson vs Syracuse Visitor List

I've started compiling the list, and we can let you know of a few guys already confirmed, including one big-time 2017 DE in Malik Herring. The long-time UGA lean is confirmed for the trip on Saturday.  We will dig into this more, but at present it's still thought that Herring is UGA’s to lose.  He has been documented on social media recruiting other players for the Dawgs. This is more a “courtesy visit,” and it has to be noted Herring’s mother is very insistent he take all of his officials before he does declare. However, UGA is on a bad slide at present, so things could change in a hurry.

Stay tuned here because you can never count out this staff when they get a prospect on campus, and this weekend he would definitely be considered the headliner so far.  He will be getting the “Orange Carpet” treatment from the staff for sure.

We will release a complete list of all the confirmed visitors to the game on Friday evening, so stay tuned to the Recruiting Radar Screen forum!
