Weekly Clemson Recruiting Update

In our weekly Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel updates you on the latest news and intel on the Clemson recruiting front!

February had a hectic start with National Singing Day and the opening of the new Football Operations Center, and after the staff has returned from a much-needed vacation, things are now starting to crank back up. Every year under the Dabo's tenure, the staff takes a vacation right after the big day in February and unwinds with their families--the past few years in Colorado on an annual ski trip.

Now that the snow gear is all dried off and put away for another year, the staff is back out on the hunt in search of the remaining pieces to their 2018 class and also scouting the 2019's and 2020’s out there, as they again return to the road and visit prospects and high schools all over the map. Just this week, a flurry of offers have found their way to at least six new prospects, as the staff is striking while the National Championship iron is still hot.

In our opinion, the most notable offer to come out of this week would be Payton Wilson. The 2018 LB prospect has recently exploded on to the scene, having picked up several offers recently, including Alabama, Ohio State, FSU, Auburn, Notre Dame and many more. This is particularly intriguing because the Tigers already have 2 linebackers in the 2017 class in Jake Venables and Mike Jones Jr.  With numbers there already tight and the class as small as it is going to be with limited space….very intriguing indeed.

Stay tuned, as spring football becomes the emphasis.  The staff has spring practice starting up at the beginning of March, and here in the upcoming month the staff will hold its second Junior Days. Another all-star list of prospects is expected to attend. So stay tuned right here to the Radar and CUTigers.com as we track these events and all your recruiting news!

****New 2019 WR Offer

Clemson reached into the Maryland area again and dropped off an offer at Dematha Catholic School in Baltimore for 2018 WR DeMarcco Hellams, a player with an expanding offer list of ACC and SEC teams, including Louisville, Tennessee, North Carolina, Michigan, UK and Maryland.

****Clemson Offers Two ND Commits

The Clemson staff went into the Jersey area of the northeast again and laid out offers to a pair of twins that are currently committed to Notre Dame. Jayson Ademilola and Justin Ademilola are a couple of inside grinders on the defensive line. If the staff can get them on campus, it could be noteworthy to track these two moving forward.  But that visit has to happen first.

****New 2018 DB Offer

The Tigers are back in the Lone Star State yet again with another DB offer out, this time to 2018 safety prospect DeMarvion Overshown, a big safety with room to grow. He has an impressive offer list that includes Clemson, Alabama, FSU, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Baylor and many more. Overshown is another prospect that could heat up if the staff can get him on campus for a visit in the next few weeks leading into spring practice or this summer for a camp stop. One thing for sure: Coach Mike Reed is wearing out the highways of Texas with DB offers in this 2018 class.

****New 2018 DT Offer

Clemson reached into Alabama and offered 2018 DT Coynis Miller, a player that is going ballistic on most radars across the ACC and SEC as evidenced by his recent spurt of offers. Miller is a monster at 6’4, 270 pounds and plays with a ferocious edge and demeanor. He holds offers from in-state Alabama and Auburn. as well as Michigan, Florida and Ole Miss. He can now add Clemson, as the Tigers have officially tendered the offer to the 2018 big man.

****New 2018 LB Offer

Clemson offers its third 2018 linebacker prospect, as the staff has thrown its hat in the ring for 2018 LB Payton Wilson of Hillsborough, NC. Wilson, whose offer list has expanded exponentially over the last few weeks, adds the National Champs to his list that already includes Alabama, Auburn, FSU, UGA, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, UNC, Maryland and NC State, just to start. At 6’4, 225 pounds, Wilson is a huge linebacker prospect that is destined to be the MIKE position whereever he ends up. Clemson is serious about adding this third potential linebacker to the 2018 class that already has commitments from Jake Venables and Mike Jones, Jr. despite limited spots in the 2018 class and numbers at the linebacker position very tight. It's intriguing to say the least, so keep an eye on Payton for March 4th and Clemson’s next Junior Days event.

****Tracking 2018 DB’s

Each Week we are spotlighting a certain position group and the players the staff has offered and earmarked for the 2018 class. This week, we move on to the defensive backs available and offered by the staff in recent months and weeks. Notice the heavy interest in the state of Texas, as Mike Reed and the staff have really spent a lot of time in the Lone Star State--especially when it comes to DB’s.  Below are the players we are tracking for the 2018 DB slots on the Clemson big board:
