Weekly Clemson Recruiting Update

In our weekly Recruiting Radar, CUTigers Recruiting Analyst Gary McDaniel updates you on the latest news and intel on the Clemson recruiting front!

Spring is officially here, the clocks have sprung forward and the Tigers are quickly approaching the annual Orange and White Game to culminate the past 2 months of scattered practices on the fields of Jervey Meadows and inside the indoor practice facility. With a couple Junior Days and a new football facility to show off to visiting recruits, their parents and coaches, Clemson has the best climate in years to present after coming off the National Championship.

And it has been evidenced by the veritable assembly line of top-tier recruits making stops into see the Tigers already this spring. That list continued to grow this week, as 4-star OL Jack Carman--arguably the top lineman in the nation--made his way to Clemson on Monday and took in all the Tigers had to offer with a spring practice and overnight stay. The visit couldn't have gone better, and he left with the Tigers atop his list of favorites--even ahead of in-state Ohio State! More on his visit in this week's Radar below.

The staff is expecting a huge crowd of prospects in for April's annual spring game and again later in the summer when the Tigers host the “All In Cookout,” a recruiting event that started about 6 years ago and has become the standard for such recruiting events at college campuses all over the south, now emulating this Dabo original. We'll have a list of confirmed spring game visitors for you next week.

So stay tuned, as we get ready for the Orange and White Game on April 8th and see where some of the past star recruits that now occupy spots on this year's Clemson roster pan out. It's going to be an interesting spring game, and a lot of excitement and a huge crowd is expected after the Tigers finished on top of the college football world in 2016!

****New 2018 WR Offer

Justyn Ross (Photo by Jason Caldwell)

The Tigers dropped into Alabama and offered highly sought-after, high 4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross out of Phoenix City.   Ross, who has a virtual who’s-who of offers, is an intriguing case because the staff has only 2 slots on the 2018 WR board. They now have 4 WR offers out there in the 2018 class and only one spot left on a very limited class for 2018. Jordyn Adams and Dennis Smith, both local prospects, have already received offers to go along with 4-star Jacob Copeland out of Florida.

Getting Ross on campus is hurdle number one for this staff because of his very busy schedule packed with trips planned this summer, and we will report on any confirmed visit to Tiger Town if it transpires, and we do think it will. This one has legs, folks. WRU has a strong appeal, and pulling kids out of Alabama would have never been thought of until the past few years, as the staff has and will recruit toe-to-toe with the Alabamas, Ohio States and Florida States of the college football world. Having that shiny new trophy in the lobby of the football facility and a laundry list of wide receivers in the NFL never hurts either!

****One of Nation's Best Linemen Has Clemson on Top

Jack Carman

http://www.scout.com/player/202694-jack-carman

CUTigers had the chance to speak to arguably the nation's #1 offensive tackle in the 2018 class. We sat down with Ohio big man Jack Carman on Monday, following a quick one-day visit to Tiger Town to get his first exposure to Clemson and take in a spring practice. Carman has an impressive list of offers from Big Ten, SEC and ACC schools all throwing their names into the proverbial hat for the 2018 mauler.

Carman has a prototypical NFL frame and has the footwork and advanced technique already as a high schooler to possibly come in and start at any Power Five program. Just like the luxury of having Mitch Hyatt anchor down the line over the past two seasons, the Tigers are looking for another anchor here in Carman.  He's a player you can rely on to be on the line and providing quality minutes for at least 3 seasons, but he's also the type of prospect that would entertain the NFL early.

We posed five questions to Jackson, and here is what he had to say about his recent Clemson visit:

CU:  Tell us what you liked most about your recent trip to Clemson?

JC:  "Probably just how genuine the people were and the environment."

CU:  Of the things you saw facility-wise, what was most impressive?

JC:  "The whole football complex was amazing!"

CU:  What coach are you interacting with most on the staff, and what is he telling you?

JC:  "Coach Dabo and Coach Caldwell both, and they said I was #1 on their board."

CU:  Did you get a chance to check out campus and downtown Clemson?

JC:  "Yes, I spent the night with some players."

CU:  When Do you plan to make a return trip to Clemson?

JC:  "I might come back during the summer, and I'll take an official there too."

****Tigers Offer Big-Time 2019 QB

Bo Nix (Photo by Jason Caldwell)

http://www.scout.com/player/206295-bo-nix

Clemson reaches into the Yellow Hammer State and offers 2019 Auburn legacy recruit Bo Nix. The son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix camped at the Dabo Swinney Camp last summer and made a quick impression on this staff. The 6’2 gunslinger has now picked up offers from the defending National Champions along with Auburn, Alabama, FSU, Tennessee, Ohio State and UGA, just to name a few of the long list of suitors.

Keep your eyes on this one moving forward. Auburn obviously holds the “legacy card," but it has been relayed to the Clemson staff that he will let his recruitment play out, and his interest in Clemson is reciprocal to the attention they are showing him. So stay tuned right here to CUTigers.com and the Recruiting Radar for all your recruiting info and intel on Nix's recruitment as well as all things Clemson!
