Top SC QB Coming to the ACC?

The Clemson Tigers already have a commitment from one of the top quarterbacks in Georgia, and they hope to add the top quarterback from the Palmetto state. Sumter's William Richardson is having a very impressive senior campaign and the college recruiters are taking notice. Are the Tigers in the top 2 for this rising star?

Sumter, South Carolina

The 6-4, 220 pound quarterback has offers from Clemson, East Carolina and South Carolina State, but expect that to change over the next few weeks as Maryland, Duke, North Carolina State, Memphis and South Carolina are all showing significant interest.

Richardson is not ready to name a leader but he does have 2 favorites. "I have no leader. It's still up in the air. Clemson and North Carolina State would be my favorites though."

Clemson had a chance to impress the star quarterback when he visited Death Valley to watch the Tigers beat the Tarheels. "It was a pretty good game. This was my first time at Clemson this year. It was a nice crowd and a good game to watch." Richardson plans to be back in Clemson in a few weeks to watch the Tigers battle the Seminoles.

Richardson has led Sumter High School to a 9-0 record on the season by throwing for over 1500 yards and 21 touchdowns. The talented prospect has only thrown 3 interceptions in 175 pass attempts. "I am more of a drop back passer. My strength is my arm."

What will the prize recruit consider when deciding where to play next season? "I want to go where I believe I fit in the best. I just want a place that fits me. I want to go where I can go in and learn the offense and produce. I'm not worried about early playing time or anything like that. I prefer an offense where they use 3 receivers and throw the ball."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding quarterback from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2004.
