Super Mario Continues to Dominate

Mario Raley, operating in one of the most prolific offenses in the southeast at Charlotte's Independence High School, has set the North Carolina record books on fire the last two seasons. We've got the latest on this speedy wideout.

This past weekend, Raley had 5 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown this weekend in his team's 50-6 win over West Charlotte.

He has already caught 42 passes and scored 13 times as Independence is now 7-0 and looking forward to the playoffs. Max Emfinger currently has Raley ranked as the #3 receiver in the country behind Ricard Washington and Dishon Platt.

Raley currently has offers on the table from Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Clemson and has been hearing from schools as far away as Michigan. Tennessee is also beginning to make a serious push for this rising star.

"I think I'll take my five official visits before I decide," Raley said in a recent interview. "I don't have a current favorite, and I'll continue to look at a few other schools."

Virginia Tech has also recently picked up the pace for Raley, and some reports have him giving the Hokies some consideration.

Meanwhile, the Independence Patriots are steamrolling every opponent they face, and the high flying trio of WR Mario Raley, WR Eric Lyon, and QB Chris Leak are the big reasons why.

"When we're playing a lesser opponent, we've got to find a way to challenge ourselves to get better, because every game we need to improve," Head Coach Tom Knotts told the Charlotte Observer. "Last week, we took a step back. We were very flat."

This week, they destroyed rival West Charlotte as Raley and top WR prospect Eric Lyon did significant damage, gathering in a combined 10 catches for 162 yards.

Eric Lyon has an offer East Carolina on the table, with more consideration being given from Tennessee, Michigan, and Virginia Tech. Clemson has not yet shown significant interest in Eric Lyon. Top Stories
