Top SC LB Back from Death Valley

Alonzo Middleton, one of the top linebackers in South Carolina, was in attendance last night when the Clemson Tigers upset the Florida State Seminoles. The O-W standout had the opportunity to visit with two former Tiger greats after the game. We've got all the details in this recruiting update.

"It was a great win. What else can you say? Clemson came in as the underdog. Nobody gave them much of a chance. Florida State had another thing coming. Clemson played a great defensive game. Florida State thought they could seize momentum in the 2nd half but they never could."

Middleton got a chance to speak with two former Tiger stars after the game.

"I got a chance to talk with Jackie Robinson after the game. He's working with our school system. I see him every morning at school. I also got a chance to talk with Jeff Davis. We just talked about the game and academics."

So did the Tigers impressive performance help the Tigers chances with the star linebacker? "Yes, a little bit," stated Middleton.

The talented prospect is not ready to go on record with a leader or a list of favorites at this point but he does know where he will plan his official visits.

"I haven't setup any of them yet, but I do know at least one that I would like to take. I would like to setup one with Clemson and maybe one at South Carolina." Tennessee, Georgia and Florida are the other leading candidates for official visits.

Middleton is being recruiting by Coach Burns, and he had a brief chance to speak with him yesterday. "I saw him yesterday at the game. He was a little busy. He asked me about my game Friday night."

The 6-2, 230 pound linebacker has an outstanding season for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, but unfortunately his senior season is over. Orangeburg finished the season with a 7-3 mark and a victory over North August Friday night, but it wasn't enough to make the playoffs.

How will Middleton make the decision where to play college ball over the next few months?

"I will go on my visits. I want to find out a little more about the schools. First, I want to go to a school that has Computer Science. I want to find an environment where the fans not only support the team but they are there for the players off the field as well."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding linebacker from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2004.
