Tigers Have Work to do with GA LB

Clemson is need of some linebackers in the 2004 recruiting class, and Leland Jones certainly fits the bill. Jones has his official visit set with the Tigers in mid-January, but several other schools may be making a harder push for his services.

Douglass (GA) linebacker Leland Jones has four schools on his list, which is very different from just a few weeks ago.

"I am looking at Maryland, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Clemson. As of right now I am down to four, because it seems like some of the recruiting coaches at other schools are not calling as much."

Jones says he was interested in LSU, but they filled up at his position. Instead, he will begin his official visits this weekend by heading north.

"I start up this weekend to Minnesota (12/5), next weekend to Maryland (12/12), and January 9th I start back with South Carolina. After that weekend I go to Clemson (1/16).

"So far I know Douglas Campbell at Minnesota, who used to play here, and my recruiting coach, Coach (Tom) Sims, seems pretty cool.

"I like Maryland because of where it is located. Because I want to major in mass communications, that's a good spot with DC right there.

"As of right now, I would say Maryland is first and Minnesota and SC are tied for second."

Clemson assistant coach Burton Burns is recruiting Jones to Tiger Town. Jones was in attendance earlier this year when the Tigers defeated Georgia Tech, 39-3.
