Clemson wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney continues to work the state of Florida for some of the best prospects in the Sunshine state. Last week Swinney visited Lake City to meet with Copeland and several of his teammates.

"It went pretty good. We talked a little while at practice. We just talked about the school, grades and the recruiting process."

To say that the 5-7, 190 pound prospect had a very impressive senior season would be a bit of an understatement. He closed out his senior year this weekend in a playoff loss to Columbia High, but he finished with 161 carries for over 1670 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Copeland is not ready to go on record with a favorite. "My favorites would be Clemson, Syracuse, North Carolina, Nebraska and Purdue. Purdue just offered."

The star running back does not plan to make a commitment until January. "I will probably wait until after the visit on January 9th to make a commitment," stated the prize recruit.

What does Andre consider his strengths as a running back? "It would be my awareness and my quickness. It would also be my power for my size."

So just how tall is the prize recruit? "I'm about 5-7 ¼," said Copeland.

Copeland has already scheduled a visit to Clemson for the weekend of January 9 and Syracuse for the weekend of January 17. The talented prospect has not scheduled visits yet with North Carolina, Nebraska or Purdue.

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding running back from Florida, right up through signing day 2004.

Editor's Note
Copeland also added that he played with current Tiger linebacker David Dunham during his freshman year when he was moved up to varsity. Also, the Florida running back appears to be very high on Clemson, even though he would decline to go on record with that statement. It appears as though Clemson has found another running back high on their list for the 2004 class in Andre Copeland, and the interest seems to be mutual.
