Profile: OL Antonio Mercier

Offensive tackle prospect Antonio Mercier is receiving a lot of attention these days, one of the schools he is seriously considering is Clemson. We've got the latest on the potential superstar.

How would you like to have an offensive line that consisted of two big time college football prospects? Well, currently starting for Washington (Ga.) Wilkes High School is Merci Falaise and Antonio Mercier. Mercier, 6-6 and 330 pounds, plays one tackle position and Falaise, 6-5 and 330 pounds, plays the other tackle position.

"We are bookends," said Mercier. "We have been a lot better since he has been back because we have won those two games. He helps me out and we push each other. I am just a powerful lineman that loves to run block," Mercier told recruiting expert Jamie Newberg.

Mercier bench presses 350 pounds, squats 510 and power cleans 305. He carries a 2.8 grade point average. He currently has scholarship offers from South Carolina, Clemson, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Kentucky.

"I want to go somewhere and have a chance to play and win. Plus, academics are a big factor. Those are the main things. So I guess I need to take my visits and see what is out there. Right now, I am open between Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and Clemson."

Mercier has already unofficially visited Georgia for their home games against South Carolina and Arkansas. He will also attend the following games - Georgia/Auburn, Clemson/Florida State, and Georgia/Georgia Tech. Washington-Wilkes is 4-2 on the season.

Mercier is set to visit Clemson officially on January 18, 2002 and the Georgia Bulldogs the weekend before. Top Stories
