Tigers Defeat FSU, 53-48

The Clemson Tigers defeated Florida State Tuesday evening at Littlejohn Coliseum, 53-48. With the win, Clemson improves to 8-6 on the year, and 1-2 in conference play.

It may not have been pretty, but the Clemson Tigers scratched and clawed their way to a 6-point win over Florida State Tuesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum, 53-48.

Shawan Robinson led the way off the bench for Clemson with 10 points. In fact, he was the only player to score in double figures for either team.

"It was all about defense. We took care of the ball better tonight even though we turned the ball over a good bit in stretches," said Clemson head coach Oliver Purnell.

Turnovers have been a problem all season long for this team, and continued to be Tuesday night. Clemson turned the ball over 18 times, shot 35% from the floor, and just 56% from the line, yet still won the game.

The Tigers took control early with a 15-7 run to open the game, and a 27-19 lead at halftime.

Tim Pickett, the ACC's leading 3-point shooter, finished with just 8 points and missed 9 of his 11 shots from behind the arc.

The second half was a defensive struggle, as both teams failed to find any sort of offensive rhythm. However Clemson would keep its lead throughout, and when Chey Christie drilled two free throws with just over 13 seconds left in the game to the Tigers a 5-point lead, the game was essentially over.

"I won't say it was a pretty win. I won't say it was a must win, but it was close to it," added Purnell.
