CUTigers.com caught up with the talented athlete earlier tonight to find out if the 6-6, 255 pound prospect is ready to commit to the Tigers.

"No sir," said Merling. "I will not commit tonight. I plan to wait and take my visit first. I will be visiting Clemson on January 23."

Although Merling stated that he is not ready to commit, it is clear that the Tigers hold a commanding lead with just 20 days till signing day. "Clemson is my leader. I want to get back to South Carolina to play. I have cancelled my official visit to South Carolina. I also cancelled my official visit to Arkansas."

Merling is looking forward to his official visit to Clemson on January 23. "I just want to see what the campus is like. I want to see if I like the atmosphere."

Coach Scott is recruiting the Cordova star as a tight end for the Tigers. "Coach Scott called on Tuesday night. We talked about the upcoming official visit."

Merling is now starring on the basketball court for Cordova High School "I am playing basketball now. I am averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds."

The former Calhoun County star continues to work hard in the weight room. "I am currently about 6-5½ and I'm weighing in at about 255 pounds."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding athlete from Tennessee, right up through signing day 2004.
