Clemson vs. N.C. State News & Notes

The Clemson Tigers will go back on the road this evening to take on North Carolina State at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Tigers will be making its fifth appearace at the RBC Center. Clemson won its first appearance there, 66-63 in the 1999-00 season.

* Clemson won its first ACC game of the year last Tuesday, a 53-48 victory over a Florida State team that was 12-2 entering the game. Clemson's defense held the Seminoles to 37 percent shooting, including 30 percent from three-point range.

The Seminoles entered the game shooting an ACC best 41 percent from three-point land. Clemson held Florida State to 48 points for the game, the best scoring defense by a Tiger team in an ACC game since a 59-42 win over NC State on 1-27-00.

* Vernon Hamilton was a sparkplug for the Tigers on defense with five steals, including three inside the last 9:24 of the game. Hamilton now has 33 steals for the year, more than twice as many as any other Tiger. Half way through the season, Hamilton is on pace to break Greg Buckner's freshman steal record of 63 set in 1994-95.

* Clemson had a positive turnover margin in the win over Florida State, forcing 20 Seminole miscues against 18 committed by the Tigers. It broke a 9- game streak in which Clemson had committed more turnovers than the opposition. Chris Hobbs has 620 rebounds entering the NC State game in Raleigh. He needs just nine rebounds to move ahead of Vincent Hamilton into 14th place on the all-time Clemson list. Hobbs, a native of Clemson's career field goal percentage list (542).

* Clemson still has not allowed a team to shoot 50 percent from the field this year. Only three teams have exceeded 46 percent from the field against Clemson this year and all three of those teams (Cincinnati, Duke and Wake Forest) are ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

* Clemson is shooting .459 from the field so far this year. If the season ended today that would be Clemson's best field goal percentage over a season since the 1998-99 team also shot .459 from the field. Clemson's field goal percentage defense of .410 is on pace to be the second best by a Tiger team since the 1989-90 ACC Championship team.

* Clemson will be making its fifth appearace at the RBC Center. The Tigers won in their first appearance there, 66-63 in the 1999-00 season. Clemson has lost three straight in the facility by 85 points.

* Clemson's January 25 game with Maryland has been moved from 8:00 PM to 6:30 PM start. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net. Clemson's January 31 contest with North Carolina at Littlejohn Coliseum is sold out.

* NC State head coach Herb Sendek will be looking for his 200th career victory as a head coach when the Tigers face NC State on Saturday.
