Saturday Evening Recruiting Scoop

Some interesting tidbits we've picked up this weekend with some of the prospects in Clemson and down in Columbia. Included in this report include some details on Matt Raysor, Dorrel Scott, and RB Jamaal Edwards. Did the 4-star RB go through with his official visit to Tiger Town?

* We've been told that South Carolina has not yet received any verbal commitments this weekend, but look for the Gamecocks to reel in several players tomorrow morning/afternoon. Early returns from many of the prospects in Columbia have been positive.

Updated: South Carolina appears to have landed the verbal commitments of Orangeburg-Wilkinson LB Alonzo Middleton and Tennessee native DE Kevin Mainord. Also, Phil Kornblut is reporting that Central's Trent Usher is also going to announce a verbal commit to the Gamecocks.

* Jamaal Edwards did NOT make the trip to Clemson this weekend. This has been confirmed. "I'm not sure if I will rescedule," said Edwards Saturday evening in an interview with

"My dad had to work, so I couldn't make it down. It looks like I'm just going to stick with Florida State. We called coach Burns and told him that I wouldn't be coming down," added Edwards.

* The early returns from Matt Raysor's visit to South Carolina have been positive. He appears to be reconfirming his commitment to South Carolina.

As most of you know by now, Raysor was 50-50 between South Carolina and Clemson entering the weekend.

* Greenville LB Alex Pearson made his decision public on a verbal commitment earlier today. Pearson is being hosted by center Tommy Sharpe.

* Dorrel Scott did not make an official visit to South Carolina. Top Stories
