Chambers Headlines Strong RB Class

The state of South Carolina appears to be loaded with talent at running back in 2004, and headlining the list of the very best is Pageland Central's Sadat Chambers. The junior ground gainer was instrumental in leading the Eagles to the Class 2A State Championship last year.

Sadat Chambers is a name that college football fans in the state of South Carolina may want to familiarize themselves with in a hurry.

Chambers is one of several top-notch junior running backs that should be one of the more heavily recruited athletes in the Palmetto state this year.

Chambers finished up an outstanding year last year for the Eagles by rushing 13 times for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Class 2A State Championship game against Batesburg-Leesville.

Overall, Central finished the season at 14-1, including a crushing 40-20 win for the state title.

"We run out of the wishbone," said assistant coach Johnny Mangum. "And last year we had 6 backs carry the football for over 3,000 yards. So he may not have some of the numbers as some other backs in the state because they all share the ball, but he can run, and he can also block."

In addition, Chambers is also no stranger to Clemson.

"We took him up there for the Ball State game two years ago and he wore his Dantzler jersey and loved it up there," said Coach Mangum.

In terms of recruiting, Chambers has already been hearing from several schools in the early stages of the recruiting process, including both Clemson and South Carolina.

"Coach Swinney said that they were coming down to see him as soon as they could at the coaches' clinic earlier this month," said Mangum.

Mangum closed with this little tidbit of information, "Sadat loves to hit. If you don't believe me watch the state championship game tape."
