CB Brandon Croley
6-0, 180, 4.49
First Coast High School
The Stats: Brandon Croley registered 60 tackles, 2 interceptions and a pair of punt returns for touchdowns as a senior at Jacksonville's First Coast High School. Croley was recruited to Clemson by wide receivers' coach Dabo Swinney and hails from the same school as former Clemson great and current Philadelphia Eagles' All-Pro Brian Dawkins.
Strength: Croley has excellent size and could be utilized as either a cornerback or a free safety in John Lovett's defensive scheme. Those that have followed his high school career also say that he's a physical player that can "bring it" with the best of them. He's a versatile athlete that doesn't shy away from contact and forces the action.
Why Clemson? "My coach and I called Coach Swinney on the day I committed," said Croley. "Coach Swinney started out asking me how my summer was going and I told him I wanted to be a Tiger. He was screaming on the phone. He told me he was hoping I would commit because I was on the top of his list. I'm real excited about Clemson because I think the direction of the program is going up. We will probably win the ACC and a National Championship over the next few years. I believe I can come and play as a freshman, but I've got a lot of work to do ahead of me if that's going to happen."
Interesting Tidbit: Croley continues the trend of the Clemson coaching staff bringing in players that can play a number of positions. Croley has the size to play free safety, yet he also has the speed to serve as a cover corner. With Travis Pugh, Tavaghn Monts, and Roy Walker holding the fort down at free safety, he'll likely be tested as a cornerback once he steps foot on campus this fall.
Dabo Swinney: "Croley might be one of the best defensive players we've signed in this class. He's got great instincts. He's got good feet and could play either cornerback or safety for us once he arrives on campus. He was also the defensive player of the year for them down there at First Coast High School. He's the best player on that team, I can tell you that. He's also a good punt returner and we are just excited to have him coming to Clemson."
