Q&A with Jack Leggett

Clemson head baseball coach Jack Leggett answered questions after the Tigers' 5-4 loss to Charlotte Tuesday evening at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Talk about how you felt like the team played today.
Leggett: I thought we pitched well, except for a couple of rough spots there. We just had one little rough inning there, but other than that, I thought we played pretty well. We played good defense. We just didn't hit the ball the way I'd like to see us hit it. We had some opportunities, we had some chances. That's the only thing that hurt us.

You couldn't have asked for too much more in the ninth inning than to have McCann up there with a chance to tie or win it.
Leggett: We had our chances. We had him up there right where we wanted him. Unfortunately it just didn't work out for us. He's a good player, and he's going to do a lot for us this year, that's why he's hitting in the middle of our order.

Are you planning on using Sipp as the closer for you?
Leggett: Well, we are trying to pitch a lot of our guys and it worked out good except for in a couple of spots there. The only thing that hurt us was where the guy hit a ball in the gap with a man on first base.

Did you notice anything about Steven Jackson while he was out there?
Leggett: I thought he made a good pitch to get that one kid out. We just weren't able to be that fourth out in that inning. We just weren't able to get that "out" pitch to get us out of that inning.
