Tigers Fall to Maryland

John Gilchrist scored 19 points, dished out 6 assists and had 5 steals to lead Maryland past Clemson Tuesday evening in College Park, 70-49. The win was the Terps' 13th in a row over the Tigers.

Freshman D.J. Strawberry made his first career start and scored 15 points for the Terps (14-10, 5-8 ACC), while Sharrod Ford led Clemson with 15.

The Tigers fell victim to many of the same problems that have plagued this team since the early stages of the year- turnovers and poor shooting.

Clemson shot just 31 percent from the field and committed 22 turnovers on the evening.

The Tigers fell behind early, but rallied near the end of the first half to turn a 17-point deficit to just just 9. Shawan Robinson then cut the lead to 32-24 with 18:26 remaining in the second half.

Clemson would keep the margin under 10-points for most of the second half, but a 12-0 run late in the game ended any hopes of an upset.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 10-15 overall, and 3-11 in conference play. Clemson has also yet to win a game on the road this year.

The Tigers' next game will be this Saturday against Georgia Tech. Tip-off at Littlejohn Coliseum is set for 12 o'clock. It will be the last home game for senior Chris Hobbs.
