"A Power Back with Breakaway Speed"

Eastern recruiting analyst Miller Safrit caught up with Columbia head coach Kemper Amick to get the latest on one of the top junior running backs in South Carolina this year.

Columbia (SC) running back Mike Davis named a leader for his services yesterday, and his head coach knows how great a player Davis really is.

"Mike is a power back, but he has breakaway speed," says Columbia High head coach Kemper Amick. "His best asset, however is his balance with explosiveness."

However, Coach Amick was not sure of where Davis would play in college at this point last year.

"Going into this past season, I thought he'd be a defensive player. But the last six games made me change my mind."

Davis worked hard to fine tune his game, and that continues even today.

"He just came in on Saturday at 5-10 and weighed 216 pounds of muscle. He does not have an offer yet, but that is because some schools were worried about his grades earlier. Since Christmas, he has been at a private school here in town, and he has five "A"s in all-core classes."

After those courses are over, Coach Amick expects Davis to have a 3.0 core GPA and plenty of offers.

Davis carried the ball for 2,342 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. We will continue to keep you updated on Mike Davis, right up through signing day.
