WR/S Phillip Morris
6-4, 190, 4.43
Timmonsville High School
Timmonsville, South Carolina
The Stats: Phillip Morris was an outstanding two-way player, rushing for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with 530 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns on offense, not to mention 80 tackles, 4 INTs, and forced 6 fumbles on defense. Morris, who was recruited by Clemson assistant coach Burton Burns, chose the Tigers over South Carolina.
Strength: Morris combines excellent size with outstanding speed and great hands. He also has the versatility to play any one of a number of positions at Clemson, but most are projecting him as a wide receiver.
Why Clemson? "It felt great to just go ahead and make the commitment," said Morris directly after going public with his decision. "I got up there and it was like a family atmosphere. The guys are real close and I liked that a lot. Running down the hill on my official visit was awesome. I didn't know it would be like that. And Kelvin was always supportive no matter what I decided to do. When I told him I was going to commit, he just told me to do whatever I felt comfortable with. It feels like I'm part of a family now."
Interesting Tidbit: To say that Phillip Morris is a versatile athlete may in fact be an understatement. Morris played running back, wide receiver, quarterback, free safety and punter during his career at Timmonsville High School. At Clemson, most are projecting him as a wide receiver, but he could be moved to defense as a rover/whip if the need is there.
Dabo Swinney Says: "Phillip Morris is just a heckuva an athlete and we feel really good about what he can do. He could play a number of positions for us, but we like him as a wide receiver. He's tall, he's quick, and he's got good hands. He'll be one to watch."
In Addition: Morris is likely headed to Southwest Mississippi or Georgia Military this fall, but once the Tigers get him in a few years...look out. High school coaches from around the state have indicated time after time this past year that Morris was one of the top athletes they had seen in an awfully long time.
