TE Durrell Barry
6-6, 245, 4.8
Ft. Dorchester High School
St. George, South Carolina
The Stats: Durrell Barry, who was recruited to Clemson by running backs coach Burton Burns, chose the Tigers over Louisville. The low country stand out brought in 66 catches for 1126 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior year at Ft. Dorchester High School.
Strength: Barry is a powerful wide receiver/tight end prospect that commands respect on the field. At 6-foot-5, he could makes for an extremely intimidating presence in the slot. With his size, he could also play some tight end. "He's a tough match up for anybody, and that includes cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers," said his head coach, Steve LaPrad.
Why Clemson? "My official visit to Clemson was key," said Barry. "And also they like me as a wide receiver. Coach Bowden said that I'd get a look as a wide out first. Plus, I had a good time up there on my official visit and really felt comfortable with the coaching staff. I ended up taking the trip to Louisville the weekend after that just because I felt like I owed it to their coaches to give them a serious look. But coach Bowden was real excited when I decided to commit. I was just glad to get it all over with on signing day."
Interesting Tidbit: Ft. Dorchester was home to some serious talent last year, as Barry signed with Clemson, and senior quarterback Paul Cianciolo signed with Penn State. "We had some good skill position players on our team. The guys really came together last year," said Barry.
HS Coach: "He's really is the best athlete at our school right now," said LaPrad. "He's a kid that has really long strides and just makes it look easy at times. He's probably one of the best wide receivers I've ever seen. With his talent and size, he's one that could play on Sundays one day. That's how much potential he has."
