The Clemson Tigers got back on track Friday afternoon in a big way in a 14-9 victory over the 7th ranked Auburn Tigers.

Jason Berken (2-1) pitched 5 strong innings before giving up 4 runs in the 6th to pick up his second win of the season.

Clemson got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Travis Storrer hit a solo homerun to left field. The Tigers got it going again in the bottom of the second. This time it was Andy D'Alessio with a single, followed by a Russell Triplett single, and a Herman Demmink RBI groundout to give Clemson a 2-0 lead.

After scoring a run in each of the first two innings, the Tigers blew things open in the third. Tony Sipp and Travis Storrer led off with consecutive walks before Brad McCann singled through the left side to give the Tigers a 3-run advantage.

Lou Santangelo then homered to left center to give Clemson a commanding 6-0 lead. It would be a lead that would not be relinquished.

Auburn didn't get on the board until the top of the sixth when 2B Tug Hulett hit a leadoff double followed by a 2-run homerun by C Josh Bell.

The "other" Tigers would add two more runs before pushing Berken out of the game. Berken pitched 5 and 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts.

The next inning, Auburn once again mounted a threat after loading the bases on pitcher Adam Walker. Auburn plated one run on a wild pitch by reliever Robert Rohrbaugh then added a second run on a groundout to shortstop by Sean Gamble. Then, Chuck Jeroloman drove in Bell with a double down the left field line. Finally, a groundout plated the fourth run and final run of the inning.

After Auburn's big 7th inning the Tigers quickly responded. Russell Triplett hit his second homerun of the year to give the Tigers some much needed insurance.

The SEC Tigers still weren't finished as Auburn scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth before Clemson added three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to provide the final margin of victory.

With the bases loaded, Brady Everett bounced a ball to shortstop, but it was booted by Auburn's best fielder, Jeroloman. That scored Sipp from third. Then, D'Alessio doubled to left center, giving Clemson two more runs and the final margin.

With the win, Clemson improves to 6-5 on the young season.

The Tigers will battle Auburn again tomorrow in the second game of a three game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Tyler Lumsden is scheduled to start for Clemson in the 2:00 contest.
