Quick Hits with Bobby Hutchinson

"Bobby is a guy that we really loved on film early on," said Clemson assistant coach Dabo Swinney. "He's very athletic and he's also a big, physical kid that has a lot of strength."

The Stats: Bobby Hutchinson graded out at 91% playing left tackle at Madison County High School last year. Hutchinson was recruited to Clemson by wide receivers' coach Dabo Swinney and will likely line up as a center on the offensive line this fall. Before making his commitment to Clemson, Hutchinson was being recruited hard by several schools, including Florida State.

Strength: Hutchinson, who played center most of his high school career, has outstanding quickness for a kid his size. "I'm definitely quick for my size," said Hutchinson. "If I make a mistake or two, I can correct it fairly quickly. I also like to run block. That's probably one of the things I do best right now."

Why Clemson? "It's a school that I've liked ever since I was little," said Hutchinson. "I just think I'm going to fit in really well there. I like the coaches. My parents really liked Clemson too. Actually they probably loved it as much, if not more, than I did- especially Vickery Hall and everything they help you with from an academic standpoint. I'm just ready to get up there to start my college career."

Interesting Note: Hutchinson was hosted by starting center Tommy Sharpe on his official visit and became good friends with future Clemson quarterbacks Cullen Harper and Tribble Reese. "I'm looking forward to talking more with those guys later this year," said Hutchinson. "We hit it off on my official visit."

Coach Swinney Says: "Bobby is a guy that we really loved on film early on. He's very athletic and he's also a big, physical kid that has a lot of strength. He played center some in high school, but he's athletic enough to also play tackle. He's also a smart kid that plays smart, and loves the game of football. We are really excited to have him on board at Clemson."

Also Remember: Madison County High School will be home to several Division I-A prospects in 2005. It will be interesting to see if Coach Swinney is able to get back in there and work his magic again this year after getting Hutchinson to Clemson in the 2004 class.
