The Stats: Taylor Tremel was one of the first linemen to commit to the Tigers last year, and he was also the first recruit in the 2004 class to send in his letter of intent to Clemson University on signing day. Tremel comes to Tiger Town as a three-year starter at Lake Mary High School, and has the versatility to play any one of a number of positions on the offensive line. Tremel, who was recruited to Clemson by wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney, chose the Tigers over South Florida, Georgia Tech, and Alabama.
Strength: Tremel is a lean lineman that will have to opportunity to increase his size in the weight room, not the lunchroom, once he arrives on campus. He's athletic, and loves to play the game. He's also a good leader. "I'm a quiet leader," said Tremel. "I'm always working out trying to lead others by example. I want to show others the right way to do things. I get there early and stay late."
Why Clemson? "Honestly, coach Swinney was one of the reasons I committed to Clemson when I did," said Tremel. "His energy really sticks out to you. He's probably the most energetic coach I've ever met. He seems like a player's coach and a real nice guy that's easy to talk to. Other than that, I just liked everything about the school: the stadium, the academics, and the players. It all just fits for me.
Interesting Tidbit: One of the things that impressed Tremel the most about Clemson on an unofficial visit was Death Valley. "I thought it was amazing," said Tremel. "Especially when all the players came running down the hill. I can't wait to experience it for myself in front of the fans. It was the loudest noise I've ever heard."
Coach Swinney Says: "Taylor Tremel was a guy that we found back in the spring last year. We really liked him on film. He's very athletic, he can run and he can also play tackle or guard for us. He's also an excellent student that has a strong body. He'll be about 285 pounds when he walks on campus. We are very excited about Taylor coming to Clemson."
Academics in Order: Tremel is also an athlete that has his academics completely in order. He scored a 1050 in his first attempt on the SAT and his GPA is well above what it needs to be to make to Clemson.
