McGowan (2-0) allowed just two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings to earn the win. He worked out of several jams after walking four Tiger batters. Tiger starter Robert Rohrbaugh (0-1) pitched a career-high 5.1 innings, but suffered the loss.

The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Herman Demmink reached on a wild pitch after he struck out and advanced to third on Garrick Evans' single to right field. Demmink then scored on a deep fly ball to left field by Tony Sipp.

Texas Tech came right back with three runs in the bottom of the third. Matthew Coco led off with a double to right-center and advanced to third on an infield single to second base by Madison Edwards. The Red Raiders' good placement continued when Cooper Fouts blooped a single to right, plating Coco. After Jose Delgado reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, Michael Mask laced a two-out, 1-2, hanging curveball off the chalk in right field to score two runs.

Clemson answered right back with a run in the fourth inning. Brad McCann led off with a walk and advanced to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run single through the right side. Then, Brady Everett grounded into a double play, but McCann scored from third to cut the Red Raider lead to 3-2.

The Tigers threatened to even the score in the sixth inning but were unable to come through. McGowan walked three Tigers to load the bases, but battled back from a 3-0 count to get Russell Triplett to ground out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning. He also struck out Brady Everett with runners on second and third and one out in a pivotal at-bat.

Texas Tech, however, capitalized on its chance and took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jacob Jones led off with a walk and advanced to second on a potential ground-ball double play that was mishandled by Demmink at second. Then with two outs, Josh Haney belted an RBI double down the left-field line to plate Jones. Ryan Andrews followed with another double in almost the same spot to score Haney.

Clemson had another chance to get even in the eighth inning. Travis Storrer led off with a walk and McCann doubled down the left-field line with no outs. But the next two Tigers grounded out, which did not allow the runners to advance. Fortunately for the Tigers, a wild pitch with two outs did bring in a run to cut the Texas Tech lead to 5-3.

Six different Tigers accounted for Clemson's six hits on the afternoon. Also, Storrer's 12-game hitting streak came to an end. Andrews and Edwards led the Red Raiders with two hits apiece. The Tigers were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, while Texas Tech was 6-for-14 in that situation.

Clemson will play host to Elon on Tuesday and Wednesday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
