If only this was football season.

The Clemson Tigers scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The end result? A 17-1 lead, and a comfortable win against a solid team. The victory, which was Clemson's fifth in a row, improved the Tigers' record to 14-10 overall, while Georgia fell to 16-10.

"We hit the ball hard tonight, and we also had some good pitching from Stephen Faris," said head coach Jack Leggett after the game.

"The kids have been focused, and I think we are starting to get some confidence going. We are starting to play with more of a swagger right now, and that comes along with the hitting. I believed in this team all along, I think we are just now starting to hit our stride."

The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Herman Demmink singled and third baseman Brad McCann followed two batters later with his 6th homerun of the year.

The next inning, the Tigers added three more runs. This time it was Russell Triplett who reached on an infield single, followed by a Ryan Hub triple that made the score 3-0. Hub would later score on a wild pitch and the Tigers added another run on a Brad McCann single that scored Kris Harvey, who reached earlier on a single.

And that was only the beginning.

After giving up a run in the top of the third inning, the Tigers really went to work.

Herman Demmink would double to left center scoring Garrick Evans and Russell Triplett. Harvey would then single, scoring Demmink, and Lou Santangelo would triple to right center, scoring Brad McCann, who earlier singled, and Harvey.

After 3 innings, Clemson built a 10-0 lead, and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.

The Tigers scored 7 more runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Lou Santangelo's grand slam. Santangelo, who now has a team leading 7 homeruns on the year, led the way for Clemson Wednesday night by going 2-for-3 with 6 RBI.

Preseason All-American Brad McCann also had another productive outing, going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Clemson would go add two more runs in the bottom of sixth, and Georgia would add one run in the top of the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings to provide the final score of 19-4.

It was the most lopsided loss for Georgia since a 2001 20-3 loss to Arkansas.

Clemson will return to action in the Atlantic Coast Conference this Friday against the Maryland Terrapins. First pitch at Doug Kingsmore Stadium is scheduled for 7:15.
