Phillip Merling is eager to start his college experience. "I'm excited about getting to Clemson," said Merling in a recent interview with CUTigers.com. "I'm looking forward to the college life and just playing football."

Merling plans to work hard over the next few months to make sure he is in the best shape possible when he reports to the first practice in August. "I'm just running and lifting weights after school. The (Clemson) coaches gave me a work out plan. They want me to keep on working on my grades too."

When asked how he stands with his grades and test scores, Merling responded, "I'm okay with both. I just need to keep working to keep my grades up for the end of the year."

The 6-6, 240-pound prospect has little time for rest these days as he has been working hard to prepare for next year. "I go to school and then I lift weights. When I get home I do my homework and have little time for anything else," said Merling.

The former South Carolina High School star moved to Tennessee for his senior season but he looks forward to returning to the Palmetto state. "I'm excited about getting back to South Carolina," said Merling.

Merling also added that he's planning on attending the spring game this weekend in Memphis. We will continue to keep you updated on this future Tiger, right up through the start of practice in August.
