Scouting Report: John Leake

"Leake is a tough, run defending linebacker best playing downhill," notes NFL Draft Expert Tony Pauline. "He's quick to diagnose, immediately fills the gaps or takes good angles to the action."

Name: John Leake School Clemson Year 4Sr
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 228 40: 4.75 Pos: OLB

Bio: Three year start who amassed numbers of 131/12/3 as a senior after leading the squad the prior year with 169/7/2.

Pos: Tough, run defending linebacker best playing downhill. Quick to diagnose, immediately fills the gaps or takes good angles to the action. Displays a burst to the ball, and plays with a high motor. Fights to get involved and flies around the action.

Neg: Lacks speed to the flanks and has only a short area burst. Run-first linebacker that likes to shoot up the field regardless of the situation.

Analysis: Like many of his predecessors at Clemson, Leake has a run stuffing mentality and is better making plays up the field than in reverse. Marginal size is a problem as are his deficient skills in pass coverage. Could backup for in a 34 defense and does have a special teams mentality.
