New Kids on the Block
Several new players will make their mark in the ACC this fall.

Spring practice is always an interesting time of year. Not only does it give a program the ability to improve itself from within by focusing on fundamentals and encouraging competition amongst players, it also is time to experiment with position changes and play calling. And at Clemson University, it's no different.

An Inspiration to Many
Walk on quarterback Rush Lowther's hard work and dedication finally paying off.

"Our attitude and our goal is to win the National Championship," said Lowther. "We've been to a bowl game the last 5 years. We're not just saying we hope we go to a bowl. We want to go to a BCS bowl. With Charlie in control of the offense and him being such a phenomenal player, the offense is in great shape."

However, when you take a closer look at the numbers, you'll realize a couple of things.

Returning to Hallowed Grounds
Heading to the Clemson - Miami game?

Clemson fans will step back to the future when they return to Coral Gables, Florida during the first weekend of November to watch the Tigers battle the Miami Hurricanes. It will be the first trip for the football Tigers since January 1st, 1982.

Draft Day 2004
Several former Tigers will try to make their mark in the NFL this year.

Donnell Washington was taken as the 72nd overall pick in the third round by the Green Bay Packers, and Derrick Hamilton was selected as the 77th overall pick in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers.

Help is on the Way
Clemson basketball won't be down for long.

"In basketball, you only play five guys (at a time), so if you can get three (freshmen) guys that are playing significant minutes for you, you certainly can change the look of your team in terms of how you look - whether you're small, big, athletic, not athletic," said Purnell. "You can change the talent level of your team."

High Expectations
Coach Blackwell has his linebackers locked and loaded in 2004.

"When you go to fight a bully, you hit him right in the mouth," Blackwell said. "You don't dance around and give him a chance to hit you. You get the first punch in. You've got to set the tempo on defense, and our linebackers can do that."

Bowden vs. Holtz: 5 Years Later
Tommy Bowden has the clear edge over his Gamecock counterpart.

Tommy Bowden, having reeled off 4 wins to close out the 2004 season, has solidified his status as the Tigers' coach with a long-term contract and the respect (finally) of his fan base. Holtz, after back-to-back losing seasons and an NCAA investigation hanging over the program, has finally begun to lose some of his steadfast support in the fan base.

Also, a national view of football and basketball recruiting from Jamie Newberg and Dave Telep will appear in each issue.
